My frequent dinner guest brought me a hostess gift. It disappeared later in the afternoon. I’m not sure if the guest decided to retrieve it or the jays (also frequent guests) absconded with it.
I have my fingers in a lot of pies. One of those is that a number of manufacturers send me pre-production items for technical review. On it’s way: an N95 mask with built in Bluetooth earbuds and microphone and controls. My fingers are crossed that it works well. I think it’s a great idea. In addition to the electronics it has replaceable filters. Someone is being creative. I call that good news. Price point reported to be very attractive.
Like.
That was nice.
Broke loose on Saturday evening and went to a pub with indoor seating only - the first adventure of it’s kind since Covid hit the scene. Totally impressed with all - spacing, ventilation, and in fact, the whole operation.
It was so well ventilated with outside air, and fans, I needed to put my jacket back on. Service was a bit slow, due to the precautions they were taking, saw them spray down all the seats, tables, and everything between customers. Felt no unease whatsoever, and as a bonus, food and drinks were good as well.
Also coming home from the little country store on this dreary afternoon, saw a beautiful young doe crossing the street a mile or so from home. Hope she’s careful, as she was moving quite tentatively…
Posted this upthread back in March.
Advert by German government: (either read BBC article or just watch the youtube vid)
“Absolut gar nichts! Faul wie Waschbären!”
“Amount to nothing! Lazy like raccoons!”
I got about 75 feet into a Kroger today before I realized I had no mask. I scurried back to the car and got one.
The good news is everybody in Houston masks up.
Nephew texted this photo last week. Note the 1984 date on the bottle. I’d made and sent it to his parents the year before he was even born. During his family re-org following his mom’s death, he wound up with it. He & his wife made Amaretto Sours
out of it & said they were great. Later that week they pulled up stakes in California and moved to Olathe, Kansas, with their 2 young children.
He’s not great about staying in touch, so thought it was touching he thought to send the photo. Brings back a lot of sweet and bittersweet memories…
Found out recently that I’m going to be a Granpa
Oh congratulations @Scubadoo97!
Congrats @Scubadoo97 !
Son’s wife got her visa and they are coming for a visit from Turkey next week!
Are they still in Olathe?
Johnson County- my old homeland.
Yes, still there, and they both had deep roots in California. I’ve never been to KC, but H enjoyed his time there, with a former employer. Hope the little family likes it.
Question for you: do you have any favorites among KC’s and area’s BBQ sauces? @bbqboy.
Of course! Everyone has very strong opinions. Let me peruse my options for a bit.
In the pre-Internet era we drew KC recommendations from Calvin Trillin’s occasional New Yorker pieces. Once while passing through the airport metal detector, while retrieving the carry-on, we said to the officer manning the scanner: “Arthur Bryant.” He looked at the colleague at the detector gate: “Told you.” Both bid us “have a good trip and enjoy when you get there.”
“A Charlie Brown Christmas” gets a brief release from the evil grip of Apple December 13 on PBS. I’ve got the DVR set and also for “The Grinch” on TBS 30 minutes later.
Merry Christmas Charlie Brown and all the Whos in Whoville!!
A very short video of the bottle fed rescue kitten whose baby pictures are upthread. Please note the heart shaped marking on his chest. He’s also so relaxed, he’s hypnotized, it seems. So cute.
No need to alphabetize the spice rack. Just accumulate a sufficient number of them that you can (by arranging them cleverly) cause them to recursively implement the Knuth–Morris–Pratt algorithm upon themselves. Most cooks have that many anyway; it’s just a matter of rearranging them until it happens. Once it does, they look themselves up without even requiring human intervention.
