And it was about 8 ounces of meat, which for me is a good serving size. Unlike some here! :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

I just pulled this baby out of the freezer, he weighed in at 38.5 oz which is just the right serving size for me!!

If that’s the baby, I can’t wait to see the full size examples.

Oh man I wish I had taken a picture… this guy came from a 24lb rib section! Might be NSFW.

OMG! I don’t know if the guy was being a wise ass or what but I asked for a double cut and I got a triple cut!
I opened the out door kitchen (pandemic purchase) and decided to christen it with a prime porterhouse. (For 2 not 8 I wound up with lol)

A glass of wine and a cheap cigar to round off the occasion. (notice the bottle of stoli in the background like a scorned lover lol)

Porterhouse - chicken & beef burgers - corn on the cob - onion rings. Hello spring in the north east!

Regards my fellow ho’s

Thank you Eli!! I’m trying to become a wine snob but will most likely wind up a wine-o!! Anyway I’m trying to find the ones I like, this is certainly one.

Actually Prize Fighter a $ 2.69 special at my local Shop Rite. I bought one on a whim once and I was shocked at how much I enjoyed it. No more $ 20± Romeo & Juliette’s for me!!!

Mr Bean has gotten it into his head that he wants a Tomahawk steak. We’re not big steak eaters at home, probably because I am not very adept at cooking them well, but I got it into my head that I’d like to make one for Father’s Day.

So - any recommendations from all you steak maven’s on the best place to get one? I’d like to stay in southern/easternish Monmouth county if possible. Any suggestions sizing that will give the slab a nice presence but to be too overwhelming? We’ll be 3 eating dinner together.

Also, cooking suggestions would be appreciated.

Thx

Based on what I’ve read, Monmouth Meats in Red Bank is a good possibility, but you need @NotJrvedivici to chime in!

Monmouth meats in Red Bank would be my top choice, especially if you want prime & aged. The owner has participated on here occasionally I remember he answered questions about his Japanese Wagyu a year or so ago. If you aren’t concerned about aged then a more convenient option would be a World Class Shop Rite butcher has prime tomahawks at reasonable prices (all things considered). At least the newer Shop Rite by me in Shrewsbury has them on a regular basis.

You might be lucky and find some at Costco, they have an excellent prime meat section, just not 100% sure about tomahawks.

(remember generously coat with coarse salt and fresh ground pepper just before putting on the grill. set the grill at its highest temp all burner sear 3-5 mins each side depending on thickness - after each side is seared turn off center burners directly below the steak and just keep the outer burners on high to finish cooking the steak. Take off grill let sit 5 mins before cutting/slicing.

If you are feeling a little daring you can put it on a baking sheet on the grill put some fresh smashed garlic - twigs of rosemary - and a tablespoon of purified butter on top of the steak after you turn the middle burners off. After slicing the steak drizzle the butter / garlic/rosemary/juices back over the sliced steak on a plate before serving.

Place an upside down saucer on the table & place the end of steak dish on the saucer so the steak plate is on a slant and all those juices will pool on the bottom of the steak/serving plate. This way you can spoon the juices and pour it over each slice served. That’s some top steak house sh*t right there!!!)

Enjoy!!
