According to wikipedia “James Brown said “I felt like I was in a straitjacket” during his appearance.” [8]
I’m thinking he might mean that sweater.

This T.A.M.I Show performance figures comically in The Commitments – the scene where manager Jimmy Rabitte shows the videotape to impress on some of the forming band the standard they must meet, with the guys thinking Brown is injured when he drops to his knees . . .
They had the best cinnamon buns
fun fact: in the 1960’s, Howard Johnson hired Jacques Pepin away from Le Pavillion in New York and convinced him to work as a line cook and then head chef of his restaurant in Queens Village. He worked there for ten years, and I’ve seen him cite Hojo’s fried clams as one of the 10 recipes that made his career.
@Miss_belle : In my world - DF = Dear Father
WBC = White Blood Count
But it’s only because I am a: LLDIAPOTC
That said, I have heard about the various clam preps on the other coast, and have access to lots of fresh WC clams here. Sometimes we go on a dig.
Your post made me laugh, and I had come up with a totally different translation for the DF, but had the WBC worked out. Never mind now.

McDonalds hamburgers for a quarter. They taste better when you’re 14.
ETA: Potato chips and ketchup sandwich. I don’t eat them, but I like to think about them. First thing I ever made myself. Pretty awful.
When I was about 12 years old my favorite aunt gave me what I considered a weird gift at the time. The Supremes greatest hits album. But I loved it and wore it out.
Speaking of The Supremes - That was the answer on Jeopardy the other day. All three of them had no idea. But I knew.
“I’m probably the wrong person to be contributing to this thread.
This is my wheelhouse.”
Are you kidding ? This is the big fat nostalgia thread for all. As long as I can ask that folks “Dont make me over!”
This weekend I reminisced over To Sir With Love, then sobbed about Marvin Gaye and Tammy Terrell, loved Howard University, but wailed about Donny Hathaway and mental health care in the 70’s. And now.
Maybe I’ll find my picture in culottes, with my girl group, NOT getting to be Dianna. That’s okay. We all know What’s Going On
Love the Supremes too!
I’d wear that!
Yes, they were much better back then. Now, on to potato chips. Potato chips on a burger and ketchup - now that’s good food.
I loved the Supremes. I got to see them live at the Westbury Music Fair on Long Island. In those days you could see a famous group and it still cost peanuts!!!
I remember going to a Lum’s in the 70’s that was an A-frame. I think hot dogs cooked in beer was their gimmick.
There was a regional chain called Red Barn. In retrospect it wasn’t a lot different from McDonalds. It was a family outing for us and when I got my first job at Arlington Hobbycrafters that is where I went for lunch. I’d get the salad bar and figure out the arithmetic for how much each trip cost.
Wow. Interesting times indeed! Not the way I remember Smokey. But my sister DID have “go-go” boots.
Mary Chapin Carpenter went to my high school. We overlapped a year but I can’t honestly say I remember her. I sure do remember heading up to Bethesda to dance at the Twist & Shout.
