The Big Fat Nostalgia Thread For All

My favorite McMurtry “character” is Duane’s dog Shorty.

Deleted.

Shorty was my favorite “character” too until he defected. I couldn’t believe it! In order of my favorites, Shorty came first, then Sonny , Duane and Ruth. The rest of the bunch held no interest for me. Least of all Jacy. But that tumbleweed stampede.was an absolute hoot. I mean can you imagine such a thing. Leave it to Larry McMurtry to bring it to life like that.:slightly_smiling_face:

I see I am going to have to read Texasville again, I don’t remember the stampede. Or maybe see if I can find the movie, it was great. I also enjoyed the Berrybender Narratives.

I’ve never seen the movie. Nor do I care to after reading the book.:slightly_smiling_face: But it starts at chapter 66 in the paperback.

They were so cool looking back then! All chrome and macho looking. My favorite aunt bought one of the first ones and thought that the cooking time for the one cupcake she was testing was grossly insufficeient. So she cooked it long enough to make a charcoal briquette, in her words.

When I saw the Rolling Stones in the early '70s, Stevie Wonder was the opening act. I thought it was an odd pairing, but he’d just released the Talking Book album, and blew the audience away.

Made me look!

Talking Book! Just wow. And Innervisions. And Songs in the Key of Life . Good times. GREAT times, at least for music. Sigh.

A Bengal tiger is roaming a very expensive Houston neighborhood which reminded me of the Exxon tiger in your tank ads back in the 60’s. They were cloth tiger tails you got at a local gas station and attach to your gas cap.

They were everywhere.

A Houston man was arrested after fleeing from his home with his pet Bengal tiger. The big cat is still running wild. (yahoo.com)

Let’s hope nobody gets stupid and shoots the tiger. These stories frequently don’t end well, unfortunately.

I remember those Exxon tiger tails, also the 76 ball freebies for the car antennas, @jcostiones, a blast from the distant past!

I saw that tour in KC. Also saw the 81tour where Mick Taylor was playing in town same day and came on stage for a couple of tunes :sparkling_heart:

A Houston police officer said the last thing they want to do is shoot it. Then again the Memorial area of Houston has several small villages with their own police departments.

The area is very affluent and heavily wooded with plenty of places to hide.

Like River Oaksish?? I read at first that it was believed it was the suspect’s cat in question, but when they nabbed him, he said it wasn’t his pet. A mystery, but fingers crossed for a good outcome!

Yes and no. River Oaks is old money with the castles on somewhat smaller lots.

Memorial is newer money with a who’s who of of pro athletes many of whom never played in Houston.

Their mansions are on huge lots in the trees and brush unseen from the road.

@ewsflash - that must have been an awesome experience! Love Stevie!

The first time I saw the Stones, Dave Matthews opened for them, and it was great. He came back out after awhile and they did Let It Bleed. Simply awesome! I took DD2, and her friend who were still in high school at the time, and big fans of Dave M (who lives in Seattle) - their minds were blown.

Fast forward a few years and I get a call pretty late one night. The girls were out clubbing in Seattle and excitedly told me Dave Matthews was in the bar. Pretty exciting - wish I’d been there!

Happy you were able to see that wonderful show - makes for great memories & stuff to post in topics like nostalgia threads :joy_cat:

The poor animal is probably getting more stressed, and likely hungry too. Hopefully he/she can find water. Good chance of that, as they call Houston the Bayou City, right? Really hoping for a good resolution. :tiger:Getting increasingly nervous from 2340.1 miles away.
