This is good news!
Thanks, Caitlin!
Why Do We Love āThe Bearā So Much? https://www.nytimes.com/2024/06/24/dining/the-bear-season-3.html?unlocked_article_code=1.2E0.44H8.rSd3F14tlzFH
plan to watch the season over a week or two. not a fan of dumping entire seasons at once. at least for shows like this. Shogun was better when you had time to digest each episode.
And now theyāre dropping it at 9 pm Wednesday rather than midnight (i.e. a few hours early).
Just watched the latest episode. Fantastic.
Thought I saw something about it starting on the 26th but all the Googling said 27th for months. I thought they had really poor timing against the debate and obviously wasnāt the only one.
I donāt know anyone who is planning on watching the debate. I would think more people would watch the Bear than the debate. At least among those too young to collect social security. I will be doing neither tonight but instead be at the bar consuming a few.
But The Bear is streamed. You can watch it any time you want.
Highlights on the TV News shows will be more than enough for me. A debate will not influence my vote.
But Iād bet real money thatās why they moved it. First night viewership is a big marketing āgetā if itās strong.
I have mixed feelings. As someone said it was an extended ālast season on The Bearā episode. The famous chefs popping up were interesting but ultimately I found it a bit repetitive with information that we already knew, but I am looking forward to the rest of the season.
Iām only three episodes in and the tension build is crazy. I enjoy the show but I think Bears headspace requires some breaks inbetween.
I look forward to shared perspectives on Season 3. Just finished.
Guess the NYer did not like Season 3, mentioning many things that bothered me in the second season, i.e. the absolutely over-the-top xmas episode / mom (and I lurv JLC in almost everything), the love interest with seemingly no life of her own, more of the insufferable Richie, etc. etc.
I was going to watch bc food, but now Iām not even on the fence about it anymore
Wow, that review gives me pause. I wasnāt a fan of the first episode-pretentious much? And the rest of the season seems low on comedy and high on conflict and self importance. I call it the third season Ted Lasso collapse. How did we love all these people so much and now Iām sick of and not very interested in them all?
Oh, I stopped watching Ted Lasso after the first or second episode of the 2nd season. Far too saccharine for my taste. The first season was all āfeel good,ā too, but at least it was funny & had a bit of an edge. That had entirely disappeared in the second.
I could barely get through the second season of The Bear. When shouting & histrionics = drama, thatās just lazy writing in my book
Thatās a pretty relentlessly negative review. (FWIW, I do discount the comment she makes about the debt-ridden business sending Marcus to Copenhagen last season, in that Carmy and Sydney explicity talked about using his miles, and he sends him to stage with a former colleague.)
Iāve watched the new season, and I enjoyed it overall, but itās definitely uneven and Iām quite sure it will frustrate some people, and some people a lot. In her episode JLC is still a little much, but way less OTT than last season. (I recently rewatched seasons 1 and 2, and skipped āFishesā altogether, because I hated it the first time). Toward the end of the season, there are a few extended episodes, and they did not need to talke the extra time, IMO.
The NYT has a more positive take, that still gets at some of the problems (gift link).
The NPR review is very positive, but also names some of the frustrations (e.g. all the chef cameos start to just feel self-indulgent, the Faks take up way too much space, and both come at the expense of more interaction between the core cast). Not to mention the ending (not in a spoilery way, just the way they chose to end the season).
I did take breaks btwn episodes just to shake the tremor beat of season 3. I didnāt expect a season 4 cliffhanger and hope itās worth the wait because just as some of the more interesting character back stories took off, the show ended.
Iām 4 episodes into Season 3; wife bailed after episode 2. I think it got more even and ānormalā in 3 &. 4, but I am full of trepidation after reading reviews.
I get that Carmen is fixated on winning a Michelin star, and hopes that changing the menu daily will showcase their talent. Butā¦ā¦ it doesnāt take a restaurant pro to get the point of that being a very expensive way to run. Looking for a profit in week one, changing the menu daily, isnāt realistic.
Weāll see.
