The 2022 Thanksgiving Thread!

I can think of far worse fates than lasagne, bubbly, and key lime pie for Thanksgiving dinner! And I love that you’re working in pumpkin pie, turkey, and cranberry sauce. And I harbor doubts about anyone who’d begrudge your wanting to be in your own house again.

I’m thinking we are about to have a super spreader event. Fortunately no major Covid or flu risk, but mild “cold” symptoms seem to spreading among the already assembled clan.

Some nice neighbors whom I know slightly (neighborhood holiday party last December, couple of dinners since) just this morning invited me to Thanksgiving dinner. Luckily thanks to discussion upthread I have the wherewithal to make and bring a tray of spinach and Boursin stuffed mushrooms. Chopped marcona almonds instead of pine nuts. Thawing my spinach now. Had a decadent holiday breakfast of cheesy scrambled eggs with crispy bacon and a fantastic buttermilk yeasted roll from the local bakery. Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Me, too. And I’ve just ordered a new one. After 15 years of faithful service, the door on mine won’t stay closed anymore. It’s where almost everything gets cooked - did the pan of stuffing just now.

Hope you all stay healthy.

People who have runny noses and coughs should really stay home, and stay away from any infants, elders or the vulnerable .

Lots of RSV spreading around here, and the children’s hospitals are full. Any children over 12 years old or over 100 lbs are being sent to our regular hospitals for adult patients in this part of Canada right now. Surgeries for children and adults are being postponed or cancelled because of the number of unwell children filling our hospitals.

Understood. Fortunately there are no children. Unfortunately, we are all already here, and have been for several days, and "home for most of us is hundreds to thousands of miles away. :grimacing:

Thanksgiving seule this year. We are exchanging photos of our cooking, not viruses …

I think it had scoliosis.

Hmmm…I’m going to try it, but will put veg in the roasting pan and line the oven rack with foil. Supposedly they don’t create a lot of juices cooked at a high temp.

I’d just put a foil lined half sheet pan under it, easier to put in and out too.

No sheet pans here…no good knives, no kosher salt, no carrots…. I have a lot of thermometers though. Yummily seems off. Meater seems good.

ETA Found carrots!

That’s the Meater thermometer in the breast.

Forgot to poke holes in skin.

Darn! Instant read thermometer reading 145, Meater reading 155 :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

A Trader Joe’s holiday item that’s new in 2022 is Butter Toffee Pretzels. They’re standard looped hard pretzels, mini size, coated in buttery sugar. Could take this - I balk at having to call it salad - up a notch or two.

@LindaWhit looked at picture from the link and they had pictued 6 ramekins that looked to be maybe 5 or 6 ounce size. So deduced that must be how many servings it makes.

We live remotely with only 2 dogs and no other humans in our lives. I started with a low grade fever that morphed into congestion and fatigue going on for a few weeks even though I’m super vaxxed and boosted. I just stay home and sleep a lot. Dunno what it is…

Looks good enough to eat! Success!

I had to make the turkey this year, which is unprecedented. I decided to dry brine it yesterday, spreading salt between the skin and the meat all over, and salting the outside as well. Today I put mom’s bread stuffing in it, plopped it in a roasting pan and hoped for the best. I didn’t baste it, massage it or do a single additional thing to it except cover it halfway through.

HOLY COW it was good.
