Red Bank Super Foodtown 7 am and there were only about 10 people in line. Store had most things except fresh produce was scarce. They even had a nice supply of protective gloves! And I managed to get the two things that HabCore has been requesting as top priority, clementines and at least some TP!
The wife is going to be so happy when she wakes up.
One note. I only went to Red Bank Super Foodtown because my in-laws wanted special kosher and gluten-free items ( what the hell is cracklebread? ) and I was dreading it, thinking it would be a mob scene. I was pleasantly surprised.
Based on @CurlzNJ review, I went to the Neptune Shoprite as well. All things considered I felt very safe there. The only thing I would change is if they could have one way aisles. I thought the trip was a little slower than need be as I waited to pass people when others were coming from the opposite direction. Aside from the usual paper goods and cleaning supplies, they were well stocked. There were random items missing (flour tortillas but not corn for example) so I was able to get just about everything on my list. Two important exceptions - there was no whipped cream cheese which I NEED for my matzoh, and no fresh garlic or Dorot.
I also picked up my A and J produce order. It was a pleasant experience. The produce was lovely and as contactless as possible (i paid by venmo). I placed my order Monday for Wednesday pickup, they called when the order was actually ready. In case you are planning on ordering from them, they told me that orders placed now would not be ready until next week. They are busy.
Thanks to everyone for sharing their experiences. It has helped me plan better and to anticipate what I am in for. In a weird way it has been comforting.
per bag /piece, e.g. avocados were 2 each (but good size), bag of carrots was 1. Gallon of milk was 4.25 I believe and eggs were either 3 or 4 but they are XL Jumbo eggs and date goes out until May 23 for stuff I picked up this week. Anything else you need just ask they will supply It- we got lemons and limes for instance, not listed- and the are good size too. Quality appears to be superior by far to what I get at Shoperite.
They also have rye and Italian bread for a local bakery too.
Not a supermarket, but I just read this on my NextDoor board:
A local Purveyor, from Neptune, is now delivering to the general public. Jim Robinson is the owner and he has lost 100 restaurants. If you do not want to go out Jim will deliver to your door. Please help him out. Streit Purveyors phone 732-775-0803 www.topchoicecuts.com 703 Atkins Ave., Neptune NJ 07753
Oh, yes–the word about them is definitely out! I was talking to a friend in NNJ last night and told her about them, suggesting she Google NNJ wholesale produce purveyors. Cuttler was the first one that came up. @paryzer have you heard of any place up there delivering? She’s in Montclair and has been getting dribs/drabs from the few purveyors who show up year-round at the farmer’s market, but I’m wondering if there are other options I’m not aware of.
Well for those with large freezers, or that want to share packages, Marx Foods has a 10% sale, but you usually have to buy a whole case of something. They are offering some sampler boxes now too.
Also, for those that like smoked meats I highly recommend Sam’s Butcher Shop. He needs a week to process your order but will ship it overnight. His Andouille sausage, and boneless country ribs are awesome, as well as his smoked salmon.
saw this posted on the Monmouth County curbside FB group- can make no claims either way good or bad about it. Haven’t used it and prob won’t as I live near Cutler and am very happy with their stuff- but for those that can’t/won’t go out or our friends from above the Driscoll Bridge here’s another option:
Looks esp good if you want/need and Indian products or need organic/LF milk delivered as Cutler/DO/ most of the other spots I’ve seen for dairy have not been organic/LF
For our AP friends, the Barrio Costero people are launching an online shop for pickup or delivery: produce, meat, dairy, pantry items and some more than decent prices it seems on a nice selection of booze, beer, and wine.
Yeah, everyone is all about them on that FB site. Fair prices, great quality, totally EasY process, and really nice people. I hope they keep this up after we’re back to “normal”. Such a great way to get stuff.
Depending on how badly my schedules foodtown order for next week goes I might make use of this. Looks good and I believe they are thought of well here on the HO
