I placed an order with A and J produce this morning. It will be ready tomorrow. The last time I placed an order - 4/15 - pick up dates were a week out. I’m not sure if they’ve gotten more efficient or if things have slowed down but I plan on asking. Also A and J posts their sales sheet on their Facebook page weekly. However, they often have other items that are not listed. The gentleman told me they try to list the most popular items but always ask if i’m looking for something special. I added way too dill, mint, and fennel.

Ha! And I randomly decided to check out ShopRite from home over the weekend and got a pick up slot for today. I could’ve gotten one yesterday, but I decided to wait until the middle of the week. Things have definitely eased up a bit – I got just about everything I asked for, including an enormous bundle of dill and another one of parsley!
I’ve also found that Cutler has opened up… The last time I did an order, they offered pickup the next day.

We drive back to NJ Friday and arrive Saturday. I have been spoiled down in New Orleans with the grocery stores, the chain store was not crowded and had everything we needed. The little store a couple of blocks from us has a well stocked meat department.

I am not looking forward to dealing with Wegmans etc, at least I still have a good supply of proteins in the deep freezer

Maybe it’s a new equilibrium

I was in the deli section of a Monmouth County supermarket waiting for my order yesterday and an employee ( not the one helping me) behind the counter pulled down her mask and spit into a garbage can and the continued on working. I am never, ever, ever going back there, no matter how super or fresh they may be.

That’s disgusting. I’ve experienced guys cutting meat while handling cash with no glove and another guy eating slices as he cut around here, but that’s worse.
Generally no great places for cold cuts around here tbh. I take it seriously as someone who manned a slicer for over half a decade as part time job. I’d never be allowed to operate as the places around here do in my old life. Not cleaning slicer when changing meats, not layering meats and separating with paper between every
Cpl cuts, cutting meats at correct thickness, etc. none of that is SOP around here. There used to be a great kid behind the counter at Foodtown in RB but he’s no longer there, was literally only time since I moved here that I’ve been legitimately happy with way I got cold cuts.

Samaha’s Farm Market is doing this fun drive through shop experience. I could totally be spoiled by shopping this way. You give them your list verbally, they bag it up, you pay by credit card and they put the bags directly in your trunk. SO EASY.

I finally picked up a copy of the aisle directory for the Aberdeen Shoprite: Shoprite Aberdeen Layout (PDF file)

With the rest of the produce, if they have them.

My question is, where are the tortillas?

If it’s anything like the Neptune ShopRite, they’re in:
a) the bread section AND
b) the Latin section AND
c) the refrigerated section

Back at Asian Food Market this morning. The steam table is back up but sadly, not the bbq meats. Everything was well stocked and everybody wore masks and social distanced.

I was in the mood for something sweet to go with dinner tonight so I added a few egg custard tarts and a walnut cookie to my basket. This was a nice surprise as the egg custard tart was very good, not too sweet like some places make them. They’re not quite as good as the mini ones at Westlake dim sum, but worth buying again.

Realizing these are actually Middlesex County, has anyone recently been to any of Aldi, Patel Brothers, or Bhavani on Route 9 in Old Bridge/Parlin? I’m missing my papad and wider variety of pouches of Indian food than Costco has, as well as good cheeses in a good size at a good price, but I’m also cautious.

(I did go to AFM in Marlboro and stocked up on three kinds of dried mushrooms and five cans of Maesri curry pastes. I would undoubtedly buy a long-term supply at each of these as well.)

Was at Patel Brothers a month ago. Same as always, save for the masks, etc. Very well stocked.

Anybody been to Monmouth meats lately? My husband told me he wants a “really good steak” for father’s day. Challenge accepted. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

I have. They have all the meats plus great sandwiches and lunch specials.

In fact, I think that’s where @NotJrvedivici got his infamous “Apple Thick Steak.”
