I’m capping myself at two tonight. But maybe I’ll carry it over tomorrow night!
I have some ‘staples’ that I get from TJ’s:
-Olive oil
-Thai veg dumplings
-Chicken cilantro dumplings
-Assorted spices
-Raw almonds
-Their fresh ‘Green Goddess’ dressing
-Dorot herb cubes (although I can now get them at any supermarket)
Separate of those things, if I didn’t have a packed-to-the-brim freezer, I’d likely try more from their frozen section. I’ve purchased the stir fry veggies, the chicken/green chile burritos, and something else that I’m sure I’ll remember the second I publish this. I got 4-5 times a year and really stock up when I do. This time I spent $85, which is at least double my normal bill there, but of course I was buying extras + grabbing other things simply because I was there. And fwiw, I don’t think I waited more than about 6 mins to get in on Friday around 2:30pm. I wouldn’t go on the weekend.
Except for the Green Goddess dressing, those are all on my TJ staples list too. Also on my list:
Pork potstickers
Gyoza sauce
Spicy thai peanut vinaigrette
organic frozen brown rice
pump hand soaps
halloumi cheese
cheeses
peanut butter filled pretzel bites
boneless, skinless chicken thighs
maple syrup
hummus
pita chips
margarita mix

frozen items: chocolate and almond croissants, frozen organic veggies, hash browns, appetizers (too many to list for snacks these days)
fresh ravioli and tortellini
pizza dough
best tasting graham crackers
10 min farro
OMG I forgot the grapefruit hand soap on my list! Love it. They used to make a citrus-scented lotion that I loved too… SIGH
There is a big thread on the main page about stuff people like from TJ’s. I don’t make it often but I like their dishwasher detergent (basically cheaper version of the 7th generation one) and their quick cook brown basmati rice.
This stuff is awesome- love it on meats, eggs, and especially with a falafel or souvlaki pita sandwich (along with all the fixins of course).
Nice lists for me to try. I usually get the indian frozen entrees. Their frozen naan is good, too. They also had these mini ice cream cones (extremely mini, in the frozen section) that were fun.
Delicious Orchards again this morning as I live very close.
In the old days I would gladly pay a little more for their fruit and veg, knowing that all I bought would be the cream of the crop. I know that those days may be gone forever, but still. I just paid $12 for sweet potatoes and almost $30 a pound for skirt steak. Might be my last trip to DO for a while …
What??? Hey next time let me know, I’ve “got a guy” where I can get sweet potatoes for $9.99 per lbs!
I can easily guess what “skirt” is a euphemism for but “sweet potato” is a new one for me.
Trader Joe’s does have some great staples and unique items. My usuals…
One LB Belgian chocolate bars
Joe’s Dark whole bean coffee
Crystallized Ginger
Unsulphured dried mangos
Giant Peruvian corn snacks
Frozen Indian entrees
Frozen green chile mac and cheese
Chocolate nut toffee
Bacon bits and pieces
Assorted Kringles
Muesli
wow- I forgot to mention the chocolate- best deal around- any simply unmatched at price.
Samaha’s farm market is open for the season. I am picking up my order Monday am. You can order boxes online and I’ve seen from our local fb groups that pickup is very easy. They plan to open normally mid June: https://www.samahasfarm.com/
Are their pre packs accurate On the site or will they be adjusted considerably?
I’ll let you know tomorrow!
I was tasked with making poke today so I needed good quality and fresh tuna. My go to place before all this was Wooley’s so I called ten minutes before noon. They used to open at noon and it still says so on their website. They were already open and obviously busy so I accepted the voice on the phone’s gruff, “Just come into the store.”
When I got there I was pleased to see that the attached semi-outdoor farmer’s market-ish part was open. Had I not just been to Delicious Orchards a few days ago I would have picked up a few things.
Inside Wooley’s was a nightmare. A few torn strips of tape on the floor was no match for the gaggle of confused customers so nobody was social distancing. Half the staff behind the counter didn’t have masks and gloves on. I was appalled and almost left without the fish. Not going back there for a while!
I attribute this to the holiday weekend. I arrived at Manalapan Wegman’s on Saturday morning and the parking lot was packed. I thought the line to get in would be tremendous. There was no line. Everyone was inside the store, no social distancing, felt crazy. Shelves were stocked though.
We just picked our prepacked order for vegetables and fruit. Everything looks perfect. The veggie box contained half dozen corn, 3 potatoes, 2 onions, 3 of the largest carrots I’ve ever seen, 3 tomatoes, 2 green peppers, bunch of basil, bag of green beans, bunch of asparagus, 2 cucumbers and 3 bundles of broccoli.
Fruit. Looks like one substitution of pears to nectarines: red grapes, bunch of bananas, pint of blueberries, 4 nectarines, 2 lemons, 6 peaches, 3 oranges, 3 limes and 3 apples.
Looks good. How much was all that?
