Supermarket Status [Monmouth County, NJ]

Hey @Roro1831 - I was wondering if you ever got your order from Carl Streit’s? And if so what did you think? I am thinking of placing an order with them.

Thanks

I was pleased, I had no problem with the price, anything is better than actually going to the store, grabbed a couple of the steaks out the freezer this morning.

I will have to break down and hit either BJs WF or Wegmans for my milk, lactose free stuff

Thanks! I’ll give them a call.

I got some lactose free milk at the Neptune ShopRite last week. I usually get Skim Plus LF but they were out so I got something else. It’s fine.

Placed another order today with A&J Produce. Delivery a week +1 day in case anyone is thinking about ordering.

The Wal Mart mobile app for pickup orders is very convenient, provided you can find an open time slot. It knows when you have arrived at the store and asks you what your parking space number is (there’s about a dozen or so designated spots for pick up.) I was in and out in a matter of minutes with a trunk full of groceries.

just got my first Foodtown order done. I’d say about 75% of stuff was there- NO DAIRY pretty much at all which sucks…still need shredded cheeses for pizza and taco nights (and the sour cream for it)…and yogurt for the kids…also no canola oil or white vinegar…rest of the stuff was pretty decent though. They forgot my bottled water so now I have to go back to get it tmw…hopefully it goes ok. Port Monmouth was def the quickest to get pick up time online and only like 15 min away, so not too bad…

I have a gallon of white vinegar if you need it. I can give you a quart or two. I’m in Aberdeen.

So, haven’t been inside Stop and Shop since this started. Big sign up in the meat department…Limit 2. Ok, understandable. I got 2 pork roasts, and 2 packages of chuck for pot roast, a picnic and some chopped meat. Wanted to get more, but wanted to be a good neighbor also so stopped there. Shopping/cooking for 5, that’s barely going to be a week or so of food.

Go to checkout and cashier says (nicely) the limit is 2 TOTAL. Blew my mind. She let me do two orders so I ended up with 6 lbs of pork loin/roast, and the two packages of chuck. I explained that I understood the policy and if I were being an animal and taking 5 packages of one thing I could understand but trying to feed a family AND limit trips to the store this policy will just create more store traffic. I was fine until she saw the bacon, and told me that that counts as well.

So, insult to injury, no bacon.

That seems a bit much but I guess I’m understand. But at the same time if you are feeding a family and trying to limit trips to the store they defeat that ability to be safe and limit trips

I’m cooking for 5 adults and it’s a challenge to minimize store trips with the limits. I cook a set amount per person each day and that’s it. Good thing is, we are losing weight here.

yeah- I understand they are trying to limit people hoarding meat, esp with possible supply chain issues upcoming, but it’s getting a bit out of hand.

Similar thing happened to me at Ftown in RD. 1 water per person. OK- I bought one case, a bottle of fluoride baby water, and distilled water for my relatives medical equipment. get to checkout- one water total- wait seriously? WTF like I get I cant buy 9 cases of water, but now I have to make multiple trips in and out and risk my safety so I can drink, my kid can drink, and my relative can run vital medical equipment? Really? I feel like there needs be some room for interpretation.

Maybe have doctor send note that the distilled water is medically necessary. Cashiers only know that 1 is 1. I’d go to customer service counter and explain the distilled water thing to the front end. I’m also guessing that a lot of the cashiers may be new hires and so they are sticking to the guidelines as they were taught. A lot of new faces at Wegman’s.

A number of purveyors that generally supply the restaurant trade are selling to individuals. I think several are listed within this thread as well as the restaurant special thread. They typically require larger orders but that may be a way to get meat and other items in the quantities you need.

I put on my big girl pants (and my mask!) and went ShopRite Aberdeen for a surreal experience.

Produce was well stocked but I have my A&J order coming on Friday so didn’t get much here. Bread aisle also seemed fine. Nearly 100% out of all organic milk and ZERO lactose free milk. Quarts of yogurt were nearly decimated. I think I bought the last whole milk, plain quart of yogurt. Plenty of meat. Didn’t even walk down the paper aisle since I could see it was empty. The frozen vegetable aisle was bare. Minimal butter but was able to get a pound of each salted and non. Zero yeast. I am ordering a pound of yeast on Amazon if anyone needs some. Should arrive later this week.

my online orders at both Shoprite and Foodtown hav had no dairy components that were requested. No pre-packaged sliced meats either. My Shoprite order from Sun had 0 beef at all - ground, roast, etc…I’m going to have to go out into the real world I think.
