thanks. Trying to keep abreast of all these produce places (as well as meat/grocery places) and for love of Pete, any disinfecting wipes!
Johnson Restaurant Supply in Neptune (on the OG border, always open to the public) has been posting on Next Door about his daily arrivals, including masks, Lysol, and other cleaning supplies. Not sure if he’s updating anything on his site, but he’s been LOVELY and I’m happy to support him. Last I heard, he has a big sign out front saying what he does/doesn’t have. https://www.johnsonsrestaurant.com
So cool. Johnson Brothers is like crack to me.
Yes +1 to what @MsBean said. It seems way faster to pick up but I’m fine to wait. Literally the kale alone was worth it. Nearly a grocery bag was “one” kale for 1.75? 2? Glad I bought 3!
I’ve started bottling my own urine. Right about now I’m at a about 70% alcohol level so it’s multipurpose! (Wonder if my liver can’t get some of that government grant money being given to the distilleries who switched to making sanitizer)
I must say- cutler prices are on the high side of what one would pay at grocery store- but the quality and size is so much better than what I get at local grocery stores. I hope they continue this service once things go back to normal.
We’ll end up like the 1950s; having a produce guy, a meat guy, a dairy guy…etc
I didn’t think Cuttler was super high vs. grocery stores–maybe 50 cents on an item here and there–but I guess it depends on what you order. I’m supposed to get a call/pickup time from them tomorrow and will report on how I do.
Yeah I should clarify. Not super high vs store
But More line what you’d be paying minus any sales. But again def worth it due to higher quality and size
By far compared to grocery store. Some thing are actually cheaper I should add too
Are you watching Better Call Saul?
Definitely the best post I’ve seen in days! Remember Bob, quitters never win and winners never quit
I think the time has come for a c8. GM is doing zero percent financing for 84 months and no payments for 120 days. So you essentially have 88 months to pay off the best sports car in the world, for the dollar. It is almost too good to pass up. I don’t even know where I am going to put it lol. I gotta sell something. When you factor in inflation over that long, this deal is unbeatable.
I just placed an order for pick up with A and J - the next available time is next Wednesday 4/22. I kind of figured that so I placed the order before I really needed it.
we did same at Cutler- I placed order yesterday for next Mon- so we’ll be ready for it by then. Going to have to be progressive regarding groceries for next few months…
Are people starting to bug out? I drove by the food town in Atlantic highlands and the parking lot was railed.
From what I heard it’s from drive up pick up. People are not wAiting for the confirmation email that their order is ready and just showing up at the start of their predetermined window. Lot gets jammed with more and more people this way. Hearing they are about an hour or so behind at best. All things considered that’s not too bad. If people would listen would prob be even less.
Interesting… The conversation wasn’t about food town, but I was out today and my observation was there were way too many cars on the road and my theory is that people think that now that we’re all wearing masks it’s just fine to be out.
My friend’s theory is that the population has also grown in the last couple of weeks because people realize their kids aren’t going back to school, so they’re heading to the shore if they have a house.
A few updates:
Cuttler Produce - Having called in the morning to ask if I could still add to my order (placed a week ago) I was told that yes, when they called me with my pickup time, I could add 1-2 items if need be (didn’t end up happening), but that they’d likely call early afternoon, and I was reminded they close at 5pm. At 2:30, I called again because I hadn’t heard anything, and the woman who answered (who was LOVELY) said they had over 200 orders to fill for the day, but they were still making calls and would stay open until at least 5:30 to make sure everyone was able to pick up. At 3:15 I got the call, gave them my card info, and headed out to get the box. Pickup was ridiculously fast/easy–one car ahead of me, and two behind me as I left. The only item they didn’t have was a loaf of bread; my guess is the order was filled too late in the day and they had sold out, but that’s fine.
I got 2 gorgeous bunches of asparagus, 2 big zukes, a head of cauliflower, and a 1/2 clamshell of blueberries (won’t do that again!), and I’m a happy camper.
I was sharing this order with a friend who, let’s just say, is VERY particular about a lot of things . When I went to drop off his items, he opened the box and the first thing he said was “Oh, so now they’re just throwing everything in the box…great.” He was referencing the loose avocados and apples. I sat watching him in my rear view mirror as he checked everything out, and suddenly he was eyeball to clam shell on the cherry tomatoes. “Great…there’s mold on the bottom ones, so this is trash.” I finally said “You DO realize that you can stare at those all you want, but I’M not taking them back, right?” HEHE Thankfully we have a good friendship. In any case, he was going to call there this morning and see if they’d credit us for the next order, which he was going to place today since everything is a week out.
Another friend (picky in different ways) texted to say he got his meat order from Pop’s in Long Branch and that it was a huge ripoff. YMMV but I thought I’d share.
Finally, a hint I don’t think I’ve shared here yet–Walgreens will sell you anything in the store through the drive-thru as long as it fits in the bank drawer! A friend bought eggs/milk/soda that way! You can call ahead or just drive up. Random, but if you’re desperate for 1-2 things, it’s a great way to avoid contact/grocery stores.
I needed to restock some dish soap and paper towels, so off I went. Foodtown AH yesterday morning and they had single roll towels and some eco friendly dish soap. I had been wanting to go to Restaurant Depot to check, so passed on Foodtown and headed there today.
Even though I had a pass I told them I did not to see about their day pass open to the public. Took my license and signed, very easy.
Plenty of bleach, dish soap, gloves, and cleaning supplies. Did not look for sanitizer/wipes but also did not see it.
Only larger commercial type paper towels and toilet tissue. Picked up a small box of c-fold to have as backup.
And of course, plenty of awesome food! Had to stop myself from loading up on too much so kept it light.
that stinks to hear about Pops, I was looking to place an order with them. I see people giving them thumbs up on the FB curbside site. I also see same for the Butchers Block package- but for $100 for not a ton of meat I’m not sure I can bring myself to pull the trigger on that one. I don’t know if it’s worth it to overpay for filet mignons for home use; not that I wouldn’t love one right about now- but I’d like more than 1lb of chicken to go along with it since that’s what kids love the most.
Just found these guys even though they are only a few miles from me. Lots of fresh produce and some other things too. No minimum for the produce.
