I have just a few days in Paris in May following a long food and wine trip to the Republic of Georgia. On this trip I am hoping to find some good local, neighborhood places where I can order a la carte. I have a seafood allergy so can be challenging with certain tasting menus. I like fairly creative cooking with a focus on good produce in season and am open to all price points. Doesn’t have to be “can’t miss” destination restaurants just fun spots with that certain local joie de vivre. Any fun places in the 2, 9 and 10 I should consider? Thanks!
In doing my own research I have come up with this list. Any recent feedback on the below would be much appreciated. Thanks!
Eels
Empreinte
Habile
Mache
Lazu
Panurge
Brion
Accents Table Bourse
Fleur de Pave
I’ve been to all at one time or another and they’ve all been good. That said, in the case of Accents and Fleur de Pavé, it’s been a long white (I know that Fleur de Pavé has changed chefs since I was there).
I went to Accents about a year ago for dinner and found it excellent, and a lot of food. I want to go back tbh. I think it was 7 courses but wound up being 9 or 10. It felt like they kept bringing us things.
Thanks for the reply! Are there any standouts for an a la carte (or tasting menu that can accommodate a seafood allergy) amongst my list? Or anything in the 2/9/10/upper 3rd you recommend? I’ll be super tired after 10 days in Georgia and want to keep it easy and close to my hotel.
I really just want fresh, seasonal cooking in a somewhat lively atmosphere; no steak frites on this trip!
Everyone these days can accommodate a seafood (or any other kind of) allergy, just give them warning when you reserve. I think Mâche (which will be my next write up) might be the closest fit to your request, also eels if you’re going at lunch (I’ve never been at dinner). Dame and Lazu, too, but their a bit more informal. I’d have Empreinte at the top of that list but for the fact that it’s not terribly lively – it’s just so under the radar that it doesn’t have many diners.
I strongly endorse Eels (make sure to have the signature entree), Brion and Panurge.
If you go to Empreinte, don’t go at dinner time (it was so empty).
Petrelle and L’Office in the 9th are two other possibilities, though I’ve not been to the latter in a few years.
L’Îlot is a wonderful oyster bar in the 3rd that’s open late (but not for lunch) if you’re willing to wander a bit further. It’s great for a light meal
Based on all the good feedback/suggestions here is my current plan:
Tuesday dinner- Mache (changed from Empreinte)
Wednesday lunch- Accents Table Bourse
Wednesday dinner- Brigade du Tigre (menu looks yummy!)
Thursday lunch- undecided (crepes? ramen? Turkish?)
Thursday dinner- Eels
Having just a few days in a city like Paris is indeed a challenge, albeit a good one to have! If anyone has great lunch suggestions (all cuisines) I’ll take those as well.
Making Mache my first dinner based partly on your fabulous write-up. Thanks!
Alliance is a lunch favorite on this board (deservingly so).
