I was surprised bc I think the U-pick farms in Carnation & Duvall are more of a June thing and it hasn’t been that warm, but I got some nice berries at a farmers market in Portland today. The kind you can smell from 10 feet away. Yum!

Gonzalez Farms from Monterey has a stall at the old Oakland FM, so will check out this Friday. They have stalls at a lot of FMs.
First pick of the year! The grocery store was sold out of my fave vanilla (H-D) so we had to settle for Talenti

another few weeks here in new england for both the strawberries and peonies:)
re which ice cream: i’m a tillamook girl, myself. although my favorite thing to with native strawberries is to top them some outrageously expensive ricotta i’ve mixed with vanilla and orange zest, them topped with chopped hazelnuts and shaved dark chocolate.

I’m pretty salty bec i have to take a work trip this week- the first week of the strawb season (not to mention i have to fly on Memorial Day.) Fortunately, the farm where i pick does a good job planting early-, mid- and late-blooming varieties, so there will be plenty of berries when I return on Saturday.
This particular farm just announced this is their final strawberry season, however, so the whole thing feels sad.
They are apparently continuing (for the time being) with their black and red raspberries, which is a relief - but I am still sad.

Second week for strawberries although next week might be a wash due to all the rain!
Crepes are filled and topped with lightly sugared strawberries, I had bought two quarts and I’m very happy with the taste of these.

Fresh strawberries topped with a dollop of full fat, not too tangy, local yogurt (Fiddlecreek Farm) pretty much every morning until they are gone

Quick strawberry fool with macerated berries, whipped cream and some chopped pistachios. Spoonful of rhubarb compote at the bottom.

Picked four more quarts in the rain this morning 
That’s prob my last pick this season. Raspberries might be ready next week, followed shortly thereafter by black raspberries.
