Stores Overstocked on Turkeys?

I was in ShopRite today (Tuesday before Thanksgiving) and they had two giant bins (larger than industrial-sized laundry baskets) full of frozen turkeys. Yes, I know there are ways to quick-thaw a turkey, but this seems as if someone in the store had seriously miscalculated the demand.

(It’s like years ago when by mid-Passover they were literally giving away matzoh, no purchase necessary.)

It’s like that every year

I can’t always find one the week after, when I return home. I hope to!

As of a couple days ago, Costco around here was sold out of turkeys.

We had a shortage in Canada due to the bird flu decimating turkey farms and chicken farms.

I like to get another one after Thanksgiving when they’re wildly cheap!

And if you do, the price could already be raised.

I bought a second turkey yesterday at Grocery Outlet to freeze for after the Holidays. $1.49/pound, and $18.

I had to make a second stop at a “regular” grocery store, where the same brand fresh birds were $4.99/pound. I noticed one bird’s tag read over $78.
