Stand Mixer

I’m glad for you Charles. You have a Better Lord than I do. I’m 68 now and can’t make meringue by hand.

Others of us have more debilitating arthritis.

My mother had one of those crank mixers! It’d always come out when she was making whipped cream.

Something like this one??
I use this one for small jobs and for quiches. After use, I throw it in the dishwasher for easy cleaning.

My mom had one of those, but the only place I have ever seen one of them used was in a sandbox, by a four-year-old!

Come on over and you can watch a grown man with the mind of a 4 year old use one!! (LOL)

I can do that looking in the mirror, but thanks! I’ll have to check to see if Mom still has that hand-crank beater.

Exactly!

Buy a commercial stand mixer. If you’re a serious baker, it’s time to move up.

I was recommended an Ankarsrum stand mixer on the old Chowhound forum and I’m still glad I bought it instead of a Kitchenaid standmixer.

For bread and meatballs it’s just fantastic - I can make 2-3 kilo very easily and the whole kitchen table and the machine is not moving like it is, when you use a KitchenAid standmixer.

Learning curve was like 4-5 minutes.
It’s very easy to setup.

I am thinking about this Ankarsrum Standing Mixer. Will a little more research this weekend. There are also refurbished models selling for less through this Canadian Kitchen Shop.

I like this Buy It for Life forum on Reddit.

Does anyone have experience with a Krups or Bosch standing mixer?

I have, and have always kept, one of those crank egg beaters. Just like my Mom had.

America’s Test Kitchen recently recommended the Ankarsrum over the Kitchen Aid for those who bake a lot of bread.

For me, whipping egg whites or heavy cream would take forever with one of those. The handheld electric mixer works just fine for small tasks like that.

Well, I have one of those too… I can’t remember the last time I made whipped cream to add to something other than using it as a topping, and then I used my favorite new toy - the cream whipper . just fill it up, put on the charger cartridge and squirt it out! Lotsa whipped cream and I’m in heaven. I love whipped cream! I will noe that I have used the egg beater as a way to semi-purée split pea soup, but now I have an immersion blender …

Same Here!! I use for whipping the eggs for my quiches. I have a had mixer, but if its just a quick job where I want a lot of air (into whatever I’m whipping up) I like this egg beater better.

Thanks! I am leaning towards the Ankarsrum right now.

I used a KitchenAid mixer for years. Then I got an Ankarsrum. The Ankarsrum is much better.
