Maybe I’m missing something, but all the “sliced turkey” I’m seeing seems to be “mushed-up turkey meat with a bunch of other ingredients”. What I am looking for is sliced turkey, with the texture and taste of turkey. Is this hopeless, or is it that I don’t know where to look in the store?
My local Whole Foods has genuine roast turkey, sliced to order in the deli section. I think that yes, for the most part, packaged sliced turkey is turkey roll, mushed up turkey meat etc.
Agreed. Packaged turkey is nasty stuff.
As much as I love real roasted turkey, I detest the slimy stuff.
My friend owns a corner market with deli; he won’t eat that stuff but he sells it for customers who want it. I won’t go near it. Frankenfood.
I once watched a show of Jamie Oliver … I think he went to Louisville, Kentucky, high rates of obesity. He wanted to show them how to cook fast, nutritious meals.
He used a blender to show how chicken nuggets are made, crappy parts of the chicken that should be discarded. Looked disgusting.
Yes, the deli section and prepared food sections do have what appears to be actual turkey. Clearly I was looking for turkey in all the wrong places!
Happy gobbling!
At my WF: $17 lb
And one serving usually contains a week’s RDA of salt.
