[Singapore] Popular breakfast options at Chong Boon Market & Food Centre

Chong Boon Market & Food Centre at Ang Mo Kio Avenue 10 is one of the most popular breakfast spots for locals in the Ang Mo Kio HDB estate, with several popular stalls. The food centre is virtually packed every morning from 7am onwards.

Two of these, which see longest queues each morning, are the long-standing stalwarts:

  1. Yong Xin, which specializes in “bak chor mee” - minced pork noodles, tossed in a dressing made of lard, vinegar, chilli, garlic, braised shitake mushrooms and other condiments, including toasted “pee her” (dried leatherjacket fish).

  1. Hua Hua, which serves “economy bee hoon mee” - my favourite breakfast noodles: fried with light & dark soysauce, and sweet dark soysauce. Usually, fried eggs, fried tofu, fishcakes or fried luncheon meat/Spam are optional sides for the noodles.

Prices tend to be lower at these HDB food centres, compared to those food centres which has foreign visitors or tourists, e.g. Newton, Maxwell Road, Old Airport Road, or Tiong Bahru.
