[Singapore] Bib Gourmand list 2023

The Michelin Guide Singapore 2023 just announced its latest Bib Gourmand list - which had 17 new hawker stalls, this time finally including my personal favourite food stall in the whole wide world: Heng Kee Curry Noodles which I’d been patronising for over three decades.

I even brought Chowhound’s Jim Leff to eat there in 2018. I wasn’t sure if Jim could take the chili heat, but he cleaned out his bowl!

Well, it took the Michelin Guide Singapore (which published its first Singapore edition back in 2016) seven years to finally realise Heng Kee is one of the best spots in Singapore’s hawker scene.

Thank you. Will go there when I am in SG.

To your mind, which chicken rice stalls should I try, beside Tian Tian?

My current personal favourite spots are:

  1. Chicken House on Upper Thomson Road;
  2. Sin Kee at Holland Close;
  3. Lee Fun Nam Kee in Toa Payoh;
  4. Boon Tong Kee - this is a popular chain. Its Balestier Road branch is the flagship store;
  5. Chiew Kee - this is more of a Cantonese-style chicken rice spot, rather the more prevalent Hainanese variety.

Another of my personal favourites, and which is often overlooked or underestimated, is Ma Li Ya Virgin Chicken at Chinatown Complex.
