Fox’s u-bet chocolate syrup in our childhood home. Probably had the same gigantic plastic bottle for a decade.
Bosco syrup we put on everything including digging a trench in a jar of pb for liquid Reese’s cups. We took turns w the spoon.
Wow, haven’t even heard of the Chico’s that @winecountrygirl mentioned. I only know it as a purveyor of clothing. Not familiar either with the two products @Rooster spoke about. Always fascinated by regional differences and products in our large country. No trip to anywhere is incomplete without a good and thorough trip to a grocery store, even if I don’t buy anything. Also love to drive around typical, as well as nice neighborhoods everywhere. Interesting to me.
Ovaltine
We still buy Ovaltine to use in homemade ice cream.
Agree on the Ovaltine; for some reason mom wouldn’t buy it, but I had it every chance I could at other kids houses. Never thought to put it in homemade ice cream, either. Will have to buy a jar soon, as well as some malted milk powder, especially since on a nostalgia everything streak. Hope they still make Ovaltine, but as with all else, has been re-formulated, most probably.
It’s tasty!
Very cool, thanks much! Recipe has been saved, looks really easy too. Will def buy and try & look forward to the ice cream too! @Rooster! So enjoying childhood again, along with the 70’s -90’s. Tuna noodle casserole on the menu for tonight.
I can’t even find an old picture of it on google. I had no idea it was THAT hard to find!
Last I tried it (5+ years ago) it definitely had been reformulated. The Ovaltine I remember from my childhood in the 50’s/early 60’s, was sort of a semi-transparent brownish crystalline substance that was very malty in flavor; the new stuff was dull and granular – more of a lumpy powder. Very different flavor. At the time, there was also an “original version”, which didn’t seem very different from the reformulated one.
Anyone remember Cocoa Marsh?
Sad to hear but a total expectation on my part, and thanks for the confirmation. There’s a saying that the more things change, the more they remain the same; I can only hope product changes so much, it gets back to the original. At least before I journey on to the next adventure, but not of this world…
Since quite a few regional items have come up in this thread, thought I’d post a food gift, received just yesterday from kid #2. (Starting to loosen up a bit QT wise, still maintaining distance tho)
Has anyone had these? While not a chocolate or candy bar fan, these were pretty good, esp the peanut butter ones. Original, not so much. We’ll try the pecan after dinner. Made in Nashville. Unfortunately kid & SIL didn’t have a great time there, as they flew in merely hours after the big tornado hit. A/P was damaged, along with parts of the town they wanted to visit. Furthermore, they weren’t able to volunteer w/cleanup, due to sensitive nature of things, with people still missing, and personal possessions scattered about. Sad situation. Still, they listened to some good music, and managed to eat at Sean Brock’s Husk there, enjoying the meal greatly. Amid all the sadness and devastation. The big Covid wave in US hit shortly after their return.
She has potential. There’s an American food show called “Worst cook in America” or something like that. It was on TV in the gym. I couldn’t stand it.
Is this really necessary? All the forms and shapes in the world they could make and they chose this.
This happens often. Do people ever call the pizza place and tell them about this?
Clever kitchen adverts
Lol, your post reminded me of this random cosplay picture I came upon. I never thought of that as his body until I saw this too.
I always have Ovaltine at home; it’s Saturday night, ovaltine, snack and movie time treat. I’m used to drinking the kind that my mom bought from the Asian stores and I think this is a slightly different formulation than what used to be sold in the US. It looks like the picture below and it reads in Chinese (European formula).
I’ve always heard the trick to good tortillas is how you 'work the dough"…
Haha… isn’t that “rolling pin” meant for some other activities?
I’m all for multi-use appliances!
Yep, I’m sure we all have enough unitaskers in our respective kitchens
