I do (keep apples in the refrigerator). Looks like a good reference; thanks for sharing.
I keep 'em on the kitchen windowsill, but I try to eat 2 a day to keep all the doctors away.
So far it’s not working very well, but the apples are delightful ![]()
There’s a LOT of things to “store on the counter”. My counters are crowded enough, thankyouverymuch.
And I’ve never put sweet onions in a breathable bag in the crisper drawer. They are in my pantry closet on a hanging shelf. Potatoes are in a corner basket standing thingie in my (cooler) stairwell.
I do, however, leave lemons and limes out on the counter in a small bowl, even though they recommend refrigeration.
My neighbor has an apple tree – (Dorsett Golden). It is a heat resistant tree originally found in the Bahamas.
Any who, every year I pick a 5 gallon bucket of apples. I peel, core and slice them. Then into a bath of water and lemon juice for a few minutes, then freeze them. We have apples and apple related desserts all year.
I never miss an opportunity for fresh fruit – even if I have to freeze it for later use.
Kitchen windowsill: bananas, apples, onions, shallots, garlic, sumo oranges, honey mangos, pomegranates, avocados (until ripe, then they go into the crisper).
Crisper: lemons, limes, lettuce, herbs, leftover leavy veg, booberries.
My shallots and garlic are also stored in the closet pantry with the onions. I don’t buy/eat enough fruit to need all of that storage space (although I should eat more of it).
I have an open galley kitchen - no windows, so no windowsills on which to tuck away fruit and veg.
*That should be LEAFY veg ![]()
