Oh, okay. You’re one of those.

And now there is. And Nolita LITERALLY MEANS north of Little Italy, i.e. not Little Italy.

I love that map.

Interactive maps are the best. Look at this one!

thats a cute map! the comments particularly… and how borders seem to be shifting as a result of population shifts. fortunately the Times itself doesnt use all the horrible RE derived names like FIDI, BOCOCA etc - but isnt Nolita one of those names???

Speaking of maps, this one is very cool.

Hmmmm…I saw that earlier today and there was no Addisleigh Park!

I grew up on that red dot near the LIRR.

Sure. So is Soho. And Tribeca. At some point, we stop being annoyed by the nicknames and start using them. Kind of like how a cult becomes a religion if it sticks around long enough.

You should write and complain! Maybe “historic district” =/= neighborhood? I don’t know how these things work.

Also, what an interesting story - thanks for sharing it.

Question for the Hive: Is there a good reason why both Hungry Onion and Food Talk Central exist? Wouldn’t a combined site be really strong, with a large cadre of active posters?

IIRC, FTC seemed to focus predominantly on the West Coast, but that was when it first started. TBH I haven’t been back in years. Is it different now?

Different people wanted different things. Robert Lauriston, who runs FTC, had/has MUCH stricter rules than we do on HO. (I can’t recall but “Home Cooking” wasn’t something he initially wanted - not sure if they have that there now.) He is also focused almost solely on CA & West Coast restaurants.

A recipe for disaster?

Isnt that the one that started about the time that HO started?

There was another board that started about the same time that was not only west coast oriented but populated by some really unpleasant folks

at some point it just becomes mindlessly stupid and cutesy

And then eventually, they become car names.

They do.

In my hazy recollection, Robert didn’t want to merge because HO is a .org and FTC is a .com.

The trouble is, that “point” is not static.
