And I still don’t know where to eat in Little Italy.
And, when you figure it out, you’ll probably order wrong.
Still does here too, especially when people don’t bother to read preceding threads on the exact same topic
" And, when you figure it out, you’ll probably order wrong. "
Me, raising my hand.
Now I feel like fighting with someone about Two Toms, but I bet no one even remembers that stupid place.
I havent actually missed the Saga of Samuel and Roz.
I liked Samuel and Roz the first few times. Then it got old.
I’m convinced that Roz was a figment of SamuelAT’s imagination.
Not. At. All.
agree. It was hilarious the first couple of times. Then it just smacked of making up the next wild tale.
Whereas Mooch and Hooch was actual. I know the person to whom this happened, and I’m not surprised that this happened to her and her now ex-husband.
You’re kidding, right? The poor man’s Rao’s. Overcooked pasta, “go get your own drinks” from a cooler & chops that were great (you wouldn’t know), having fallen off a truck. My friend from H.S. ran the casket company across the street. Back when I had a “beeper” from work, it went off and I wouldn’t dare use a street pay phone there at night (they were dealers’ turf). The older woman owner (“grandma”) invited me in to her apartment & let me use her phone.
I had one meal there, and I’m pretty sure it was Progresso clam sauce over that overcooked pasta. Our large birthday-celebrating group was not treated particularly well. It was a lousy experience overall, and I’m sure other people had better ones, but why the hell would I put myself through that again?
Oh, I guess you do remember it.
Worse, I suppose, is that I don’t even know where Little Italy actually IS. Without the touching the Google, I mean.
It’s in Chinatown.
Well I suppose that make sense…
Must have happened way before my time there and I gather it didn’t end well. No, not looking for particulars or anything like that. Just commenting on your post since no one else has done so.
There’s a couple of places that are fine in Little Italy. Emilio’s Ballato for old school, Parm for new school. Ferrara’s it’s still a good spot for pastries. Rubirosa for pizza and pasta. I also have a soft spot for La Mela. I got to know the host a while back and he always treated us well. But have not been in ages.
I don’t wanna be a pain, but Emilio’s Ballato is in Nolita. Don’t take my word for it. (This map is my new favorite thing in the world.)
Be a pain. I will be as much a PITA.
I don’t take anything in the Times these days to be meaningful anymore especially when they deal with NYC as the publication very pointedly notes that they are now “the Times.” When I came to NYC, there was no place called Nolita. A quick google search shows the name coming into use in 1996. In 1996 the former NY Times was just a big booster for real estate interests. Remember that fat Sunday real estate section?
