Not only that, but tapioca bubbles are really tasteless, they are there more for texture than taste.
For places that make good boba tea, the boba is usually housemade (not from a package) and you can often get the tea unsweetened.
I’m not a boba tea person, but one of my favorite boba tea concoctions is actually made with a combo of espresso and tea (a/k/a Spritz) with no sweetner and a splash of Kahlua.
This is true–the main reason I like boba is the texture (same with mochi). I’ve come to appreciate the Asian desserts that are mixtures of textures, like halo halo.
I order my bubble tea half sweet or quarter sweet. Many places customize the sugar, ice, etc. I live within 2 miles of approximately 25 bubble tea shops in Toronto. Some are better than others.
I like it. I usually get Royal Milk Tea, Passionfruit Tea or Brown Sugar Tea.
That may well be. However, most of these boba concoctions sound like dessert drinks to me, and since I am not huge on sweet flavors – least of all in my drinks, it’s just not my cuppa (pun intended).
