Recs for Orillia and Huntsville

Anything new and of note in either Huntsville or Orillia and even Parry Sound?

Haven’t eaten in Huntsville this year, so the best I can do is provide this report from last summer. If you try any of these places, please give us an update.

I started this thread, which might help you in Parry Sound.

I’m passing through Orillia this month. Does anyone have a favourite stop?

You could always stop by Weber’s on hwy 11 for a burger and fries. They’ve been there forever.

Edit to add: if you’re into butter tarts, The Sweet Oven at Park Place in Barrie does some decent ones.

Yes, they have been there forever.

The Greek place, Burger Pit, at Hawkestone, has better burgers. And no lines. LOL. I friggin’ hate lines.

I was a camper in the 80s and a camp counsellor in the 90s. I used to stop at Weber’s every time I headed to and from camp once I was a counsellor. I usually have stopped there on my way to Algonquin Park over the past 28 years.

I do like the seasoned salt on the fries, and the cheeseburger hits the spot at Weber’s.

I noticed this place on my way home from Huntsville last October.

Thanks for this. I’ll have to check out your recommendations soon.

Yeah, I hear you about lines. They’re a huge turnoff.

I’m driving the slow way, from London, through Mt Forest to Orillia to visit a friend. I’ll probably be stopping every 75 minutes at cute bakeries, and will get my burger at the midpoint of my trip, or near Orillia.

Thought I’d bump this post to mention my find-of-the-week. The Common Stove in Orillia is brought to you by Darcy MacDonell, the man behind Farmhouse Tavern. Everything about it looks terrific. Its been open since 2020, but doesn’t seem to be on anyone’s radar.

Good to know!

On the way up the 400, there’s a fantastic butcher shop in Barrie just west of the Mapleview exit called Hind Quarter Meat Co. They do sandwiches and take home prepared foods and their butcher counter is exemplary. All of the meat is of excellent quality with most of it from small, local producers. Very knowledgeable, helpful and friendly staff.
