Had the Hojicha Mousse from Raku. Decent if you like Hojicha. I prefer the lemon meringue though
I’m trying to ward of this prolonged winter.
Ended up at Cafe boulud
Plat du Mois and trusted grapefruit givre enjoyed both as shared
Had an apricot crostara delivered from forno cultura today. Glorious as usual will go well with guests. It’s been so popular I am reluctant to try out the other ones offered by them
Love their crostatas and pretty much everything they do.
Which other crostara other than the apricot version would you recommend? I recall trying the lemon one but prefer this. I would go in and try a slice but don’t venture into that area anymore.
In the later summer is best, when they take advantage of seasonal fruits. I’ve had ones with rhubarb, peach, plums. They also do a chocolate version.
Oh I will share with a friend who’s a rhubarb fan (cult follower if you ask me
). Hmm chocolate desserts have been hit or miss so have ruled that crostata out for now. I usually end up making a dark chocolate mousse at home (very decadent and I have yet to try something similar outside France) . Thanks for the heads-up
Picked up a coconut cream pie for a birthday from Scaramouche. Quick tip they open almost exactly at 5 pm as some folks were waiting outside (pickup and dine in) just waiting. I am sure it will live up to its reputation
“ ELLE PASTRY, Yonge & Elgin Mills, Richmond Hill “
Although this relatively new, Persian Own, French patisserie has an impressive 5.0/5.0 Google review rating ( 38 reviews ). The Fresh and not overly sweet Fruit tart I bought was a touch sub-par, IMO, with the crunchy shortbread crust lacking buttery taste and aroma. Similar products by DUO or Nakamura inside J-Town tasted better, the latter, way cheaper though less fancy looking.
Quick trip to four seasons Le Cafe. Bit later than usual so fewer items. Picked up a rhubarb almond muffin and Kougin Amman for guests coming over. One person likes rhubarb so I think will appreciate the muffin
Although I haven’t contributed here - I find nearly ALL desserts too sweet (exception Grapefruit Givre at Cafe Boulud) - I think the participants (particularly those in the Yorkville area) might be interested in the current Air France ‘popup’ at 151 Bloor West featuring pastries from Laurent Le Daniel (Rennes) & Yann Couvreur (Paris).

Thanks @Estufarian I saw the pop up on social media and will likely try it soon.
Meanwhile feedback on the rhubarb muffin was meh as it being very bland.
I did enjoy my Kougin Amman today as got back quite late from the concert last night
Passed by Emmer as there was request for rhubarb Kougin Amman. Sadly sold out so picked up a white chocolate and blueberry scone. Picked up a porridge bread as well for the weekend brunch. Should go well.
On the way back passed by the Air France Patisserie pop up. Picked up a lemon delight will report back though none of the items look enticing IMO as expected it’s airline food after all.
Mini update lemon delight is as expected bland and other than looking pretty and traveling well belongs with other airline foods business class or up even.
Got these chocolates as a gift. I am into plain chocolates for a while now and these filled versions (truffles) haven’t changed my mind. While pretty to look at and exotic flavors just didn’t do it for me.
Onyx chocolates on Gerard East they might appeal to you
Although we do like their truffles, you might prefer their bars. They also have great ice cream and soft serve in the summer.
Wow … they have some fancy imported bars from Asia. Have you tried any of them?
Only a few so far. The Siamaya khao soi curry was neat. My wife liked the Fossa pineapple tart one. Of their own bars, we particularly like the yuzu noir.
Thank you. The yuzu noir sounds good.
Today’s trip was to le Cafe as I had called Emmer to see if they had any rhubarb Kougin Amman left. Sadly next availability is Sunday. Ah well picked up blood pain Suisse and a dried Burberry scone.
Blueberry scone I feel is too refined and lacks the rustic character IMO. Came a strawberry jam as well. I think better options out there for scones like St John’s bakery, Emmer etc.
