Reading Posts

Is there a way I can view latest posts, on a topic vs having to pan through the many old posts to view a recent post?

You can set your homepage to unread posts. You can also set which thread you want to follow.

I am not looking for unread posts, but new posts on existing posts. Currently, I have to scroll thru dozens of posts to see a new post.

I.e., I see a new post on an old thread and have to scroll through dozens of unread posts to see the latest post.

I think this is what you mean:

Say, I open " hungryonion.org/latest "

To read the last post on a topic I click on the time display (measured in minutes/hours/days ect since a reply is posted) in the far right column “activity”. It takes me to the latest reply.

All latest replies in a topic can be accessed directly in the same way.

Also, there’s a scroll bar on the right which shows the time line of the thread and posts. Grab it and slide up and down to see the dates/time/posts.

If you see a new post on an old thread that you have never read before, it will start you at the first post.

However, if you HAVE viewed that thread before, it should start you where you last left off, usually with a thin red line that reads: “last visit”.

I do not see: time display, nor the red line.

These are thread I have viewed previous;y.

Nope, that didn’t work. I tried to grab a screenshot of the latest with time display.

OK, I see the red line on this thread.

I guess my issue is with old threads with many responses, then a new one. I have to go through dozens/scores of old posts to see the recent post.

@JMat How about like this?

Maybe you can click on the number

and fill in the last number of a topic

This is what I see when I click on the onion.
I don’t understand how you have new and unread as one category?

I tried, did not work for me.

Are you using a desktop browser or a mobile device ?

iPad.

  1. Click into the thread you want to read.

  2. Click the slider to the right of the post feed that shows the date and post count:

  3. Pull the blue slider down toward the bottom to see the latest posts.

Yes, but posts that have scores of responses take a while to scroll and load.

It would be more efficient if I was able to view last /recent posts.

Some, many sites have that option.

as does this site - pending how you are accessing it.
using a PC and Firefox, hungeronion.org/latest presents a list of thread with new posts.
if I click on the thread, it take me to the first unread post in that thread - whether it’s post #1 or post #30,000.
there’s also a scroll bar to the right to easily navigate top-to-bottom.

if you are using a cell phone, all bets are off as most sites have totally different coding for 3" screens . . .

User is not looking for first unread - that’s the whole issue here.

@JMat i am often wanting to see just the most recent two or three posts as well, but to be honest, I don’t find the scrolling that objectionable.

Sounds like the scrolling was taking too long.
