I saw this in the market and bought it thinking maybe it would be ok for a night I didn’t feel like cooking. I figured it should be decent, it’s Rao’s and the restaurant has such a good reputation. So this was chicken parm with spaghetti. The options for heating it were microwave or oven. Since the byline was “crispy” crust chicken I heated it in the oven. This was one often most disgusting things I have ever eaten. The pasta was mush, the chicken was tough and the sauce flavor was unrecognizable. It had no taste at all and it looked like paste. I would have enjoyed a can of chef boyardee ravioli more. That is the first and last time, Rao’s!
I was disappointed with their lasagna, too.
Well now, that’s a great review, and a wise admonition.
I tend NOT to buy things like that, but when I see a popular name like Rao’s, I am tempted. Now I know better.
Same here. I wont be fooled again
Thanks for taking one for the team. I was also disappointed by their lasagna - ironically it didn’t have enough sauce. I have tried their meatballs in sauce, and seem to remember that they were okay, but it was quite a while ago.
We know people who “moved a mountain “ to snag a table there and reported that the effort yielded nothing worth a lengthy report.
I bought it once; never again. Even heated it in the oven. I’ll take a Lean Cuisine over it any day.
I like their frozen pizzas, though.
Oh, I know Campbell’s owns them. Campbell’s killed off Wolfgang Puck’s soups. They also bought Pepperidge Farm Soups years ago and killed them off, too. Tick Tock, Rao’s.
I was going to post similar. Sudden and new products not their core usually means another corporations bought it, trying to recoup investment. McCormick bought Cholula and suddenly there’s 12 hot sauce flavors and a jarred salsa.
With a little luck, Campbell’s doesn’t change Rao’s pasta sauce but I wouldn’t be surprised if they did.
Various dings of Rao’s entrees on the earlier Rao’s thread.
