I’m thinking they are under $3 there. If it’s not out of your way, worth a look. They are not quite as reliable for availability but I have used them and they were more than satisfactory.
Making a half batch of KA millionaire’s bec the recipe was provided by weight. Instead of making a 13x9 pan (yikes) I’m using an 8x8 one, which is 55% the size. So all my ingredients are 55%.
Crust about done - caramel next.
Caramel on. Now chilling for chocolate layer.
apologies if you’ve answered this earlier, but i have to ask:
who eats all the delicious stuff you bake? i live alone and don’t have a lot of discipline — so ,much as i love working from home, i do miss being able to have a place to bring my baking experiments.
Mom and I eat a lot of it, and frequently she asks me to bake for her church’s regular Sunday social hour or a monthly pot luck she attends.
Most typically, though, I bake something I want to try or have a craving for, eat some of it, then send the rest off with her to share at her various social engagements (card club, quilting, etc.)
And I do not feel bad about tossing the last slice or two if I’ve had my fill, or if the recipe wasn’t successful. That’s rare, but it does happen.
When I was in the city and had to work in person, I took leftovers to work.

Wow.
What recipe did you use?
I give the source in my original post - KA (King Arthur.)
I ate every piece from an entire row, except for the tiny one I gave Mom
I do remember the soup incident…
You are asking the wrong crowd if you are crazy since we are all the same type of crazy…
Well now I need to try this recipe ( and I do love millionaire’s shortbread)…
I’ve been working from hom home for essentially my whole career, and I totally wish sometimes that I had an office to take my baking to, I’d be baking a lot more. Once upon a time, I had a housemate who was in a choir class at the local community college, and I had a lot of fun baking different cookies and bars that she took to her (very appreciative) class’s tea break each week, and then I also had someone working in the home who lived with three twenty-something men who would happily hoover up anything I sent along, to the point where they’d ask hopefully, “Are you going to Caitlin’s?” Those were the days.
I like the balance of the components here. A lot of MS recipes I see have a very thick layer of caramel that looks as if it would be overly sweet.
I can’t get over the fact you’re making a 3-layer cookie, unplanned, as a test batch. If this one were on my short-list, it would still take me weeks to think through it and clear my calendar. You’re amazing! (But then, your Mom already knew that…)
It’s nuts. I’ve wanted to try this dish for a while though, so that was part of my motivation.
They are!
You’re a machine! You do realize how high you’re setting the bar, don’t you?
Life’s too short for shitty cake.
