positive UES developments

Really? Back in the day it was great.

I tried it once and was not impressed. I’ve heard people say that occasionally they get a good bagel there, but it’s a crapshoot.

inspired by your report, we “dropped in” at Burp Bowl Cafe last evening after a visit to the Siena exhibition at the Metropolitan.
Note, its at 1812 2nd Ave at 94th Street, The noodles were very good, we especially liked the dry noodles with fragrant tender beef stew.

The lamb soup noodles served were very subtle and fresh testing; the lady asked if we wanted spicy, we said medium and she gestured toward the chile paste on the table and said we could season to taste (so seems like the very spicy issue is being addressed?).

Not a big meal, we went home and ate a bit more.

We passed by Lungi last week. Anyone try it yet?

Yes, and I thought I wrote it up here, but I guess not. I liked it a lot. From a review I wrote elsewhere:

Some unusual and good dishes, notably the vada, the calamari, the crispy turkey berries, the hoppers, the chili cheese dosa, and the nandu chaaru, which - although the menu gave no inkling of this - turned out to be a very intense crab soup. Crab roast and Sri Lankan Prawn Kari were less successful, because South Asian restaurants tend to overcook / over-sauce seafood (except calamari?), there, I said it, come at me if you must.

I can’t get over how great that name is

Looking forward to a Roman restaurant naming itself The Vomitorium.

Soft opening for now

I’ve been seeing them advertise for a while. Fingers crossed for the food.

Nice addition, but I would take all the 5 stars Google reviews with a grain of salt.

I wrote it about the one in queens at the bottom of this post, photo followed:

bestway chinese, a little storefront with four tables or so, opened up about a year ago fairly close to our apt. Tried a couple of meh dishes, returned this week for twice fried pork and their house special spicy fried chicken.

seems like they have someone who knows their way around szechuan food, the pork turned out to be fat-streaked strips of pork belly served with black bean and Doubanjiang, it was salty in a good way, especially with rice. The spicy fried chicken turned out to be Chongqing chicken but they used big chunks of chicken breast and instead of szechuan peppers, there was some sort of soft, fried chiles. too spicy for my better half, I loved the dish, the chicken was perfectly fried and I guess they coat it with ground szechuan peppercorn.

not by any means a destination, but if you’re in the hood, worth a try.
