Just in time for Hanukkah!
TBH I’ve never been a fan of latkes, rösti, riefkooche (but my dad was). Pickle latkes I could totes get behind… if someone else fries them in their kitchen ![]()

Are Latkes deep fried or shallow fried??
I’ve never made them, but they look interesting…
Usually deep-fried or shallow-fried (thanks for the correction, @backyardchef!).
Some even bake, but I’d think the end result wouldn’t be quite the same — like most things that should be fried vs. baked.
I have a deep fryer, but it’s such a pain to clean the thing up.
Maybe an air fryer with a spritz of oil on them, then flip half way thru and re-spritz them??
Oh, yes! That may very well work. I don’t know how well these stick together, tho, having never made them.
TOFTT and report back if you try plz ![]()
Pan fried is pretty common.
Shallow. I usually make latke muffins, less labor intensive and your kitchen doesn’t smell like fry after.
My relatives were always pan-fryers. I stay to this method.
I will NOT be adding pickles (shudder) to my latkes. Just…. No.
