PHILLY HO Meetup at the SEA Market on SEPT 8 [Philadelphia]

I thought I’d make a separate thread for RSVPs now that we’ve settled on a date.

@Bigley9 @Steve @MsBean @tcamp is 12pm a good time for everyone?

If there are any more Philly* HOs that want to join us, don’t be shy

*or surrounding areas

That date doesn’t work for me, but I am not so concerned about it. I would love to go back up there and meet some fresh HOs (sorry, this is why I miss Chowhound), but I am very busy right now, so I might have to pass.

BTW, my three favorite items were the stuffed chicken wings (a must), nataing (pork dip), and the lort cha (noodles in the shape of fat worms).

Thank you for the food recs — much appreciated. @gaffk told me she tried to coax some former CHs in the area to join HO, with apparently not much success. A bit of a bummer & a surprise, given what a great eating city it is. Oh, well.

Hope you can make it over for an October date

On my calendar!!! I’ll be coming from the Jersey Shore (Manasquan) if there is anyone who wants to car-pool.

Put Kay and I down as a definitely maybe. Noon on the 8th looks great right now but we have a newly rehomed stray and he has good days and bad days.

WE ARE ON FOR SUNDAY / SEPT 8 at 12PM.

Should I bring a ginormous umbrella for recognition? Is there a secret HO handshake?

I’m not familiar with the setup, so maybe we meet at the entrance to the culinary wonderland that is the SEA market — unless any of you have a better suggestion?

Here is the map of the vendors. You can meet at a particular stand/time if you like.

Would it make sense to try and reserve a picnic area?

Good question. I’ve never been, so I’ll let more seasoned market visitors chime in.

I assumed it was a bit like food festivals I’ve been to, where one just walks around, grabs what appeals, and eats it en route to the next booth / stand — altho a table might be welcome?

We were there in June so my experience may no longer be relevant as they changed locations. However, when we went we cruised through to get a look at all of the stands and then went back to try the ones that most appealed to us. There were several that had similar menus so when we couldn’t decide which to try we usually opted for the one with the longest lines. There were enough grassy areas around the perimeter that we plopped down wherever we found space.

I’ve always been traveling solo or with one other person and usually just found a place to sit nearby if the food required being stationary!

We were three and that is similar to our MO. We’d either keep walking and eating, especially the skewers, stand to the side of the booth, or gather a few things and sit on the grass.

I may actually try to get to the market this Sunday — check the layout, find the good stalls, look at the picnic areas, etc.

I appreciate the input from everyone so far :pray:t3: and look forward to the 8th

If I can drag him along

He likes food almost as much as I do, and I’m sure he’ll be happy to talk about his favorite subject with your son

Looking forward to Sunday. Did you make it to the market?

I may have missed it but to we have a meeting location?
