OT Other things to do during the quarantine

Very cool to check back and see how far you’ve moved south already!

How far off shore is the boat? I can be at the Manasquan inlet in 5 minutes. @CurlzNJ is just a few minutes north.

I’m likely to be three or four miles offshore up that far. I have stories about Manasquan Inlet! Most of the boats I move don’t fit under the railroad bridge but there is a marina outside of that I have holed up in from weather or stopped for fuel.

This trip so far we fueled in National Harbor and in Annapolis and I plan on Atlantic City. Then we’ll be back offshore until NY harbor. I’ll certainly think of you as I pass Manasquan.

Haven’t read this entire thread, but if it hasn’t been mentioned before, update your wills, or make one, if you don’t have one in place already; this would of course include any donations you may want to consider. Don’t mean to be doom and gloom, but every adult should have one, and keep it current to your wishes.

Very good point!

And Pre Need Planning for those of us of a certain age, is a real blessing to our children / next of kin.

We did a big update a couple of years back. The wills were fine, so no changes there. But we also made what, in the UK, are called “lasting powers of attorney” - basically naming people to be able to take financial and medical decisions on our behalf, should we become incapable of doing it ourselves. We needed a lawyer to set that up but it felt worth the cost. And we’ve told the named people that it exists. I’ve also written down my wishes for my funeral. Mrs H keeps saying she’ll also do it but , as yet, hasnt.

Have a safe journey. I’ll follow your position on Findmespot and think about you as well.

…and power of attorney with a loved one or someone you trust to make end-of-life decisions. DNR if you’re so inclined.

My wife and I lost a family member, unrelated to COVID-19, recently and we spent some time talking about what we want and don’t want. I think I want a reef ball. https://www.eternalreefs.com/

YES on the reef balls! My folks are in FL and my dad told me about those a few years ago. Very cool idea.

Btw, your overnight path looks quite impressive…would love to know how you did it! hehe

I’m going to duck when I write this but we watch virtually every Astros game and will continue to do so whenever baseball returns. Hey, I grew up in and still live in Houston. What am I gonna do, be a Yankee fan because they can buy anybody, Gerrit Cole, Giancarlo Stanton, or manufacture a cyborg, Aaron Judge.

Seriously, some recent movies from TCM include: King Solomon’s Mines with Stewart Granger

Mogambo, Gable

Dr. Strangelove, Peter Sellers in three roles

Mutiny on the Bounty, both the Laughton/Gable and Howard/Brando versions

Manhattan, shot in lush black and white and pulsating to the tunes of George Gershwin, my second favorite Woody movie after the farce Bananas

Annie Hall, more classic Woody

The Bad and the Beautiful, Kirk Douglas and five Academy Award wins

Johnny Eager, Robert Taylor in a classic film noir, I love film noir

Giant, Rock at his best, James Dean’s last picture, and drumroll please, Elizabeth Taylor never looking more beautiful

That is the Chesapeake and Delaware Canal. It was built in the 1820s for shipping from Philadelphia and New York to Baltimore. Saved me about a day compared to going down the Chesapeake to Norfolk and up the DelMarVA (Delaware, Maryland, Virginia) coast.

Ha! I thought it was an error; now that I’ve zoomed in much further, I can see it.

For your noir festival – double feature theme of original and second version:

  1. Double Indemnity + Body Heat

  2. Out of the Past + Against All Odds (Jane Greer in a different role too !)

Even if not in TCM’s catalog, still a lot of fun.

I’m looking at a copy of Double Indemnity in my collection of movies right now, from Dr. No to Slapshot.

Fred McMurray was great in Double Indemnity, not the goofy dad he was in My Three Sons. Barbara Stanwick was beautiful as the foul temptress. A fantastic movie.

Out of the Past slipped by me like a fastball over the middle of the plate. I never saw it, looked it up and features two of my favorite actors Robert Mitchum and Kirk Douglas. I’ll be looking for it.

Never saw those sequels.

Am I the only one who is watching the double feature of Greatest Showman and Pitch Perfect 2 ??

I love Double Indemnity (and Body Heat, now that you mention it!) , but I’m rewatching season 11 of Top Chef.

I hope Xfinity grant’s me some grace if we go over our data limit.

Its not very exciting but its damned efficient.

We took it lifetime’s ago when we lived aboard.

Hey, I’m a Mets girl. My second favorite team is ALWAYS whoever’s playing the Yankees.

Both great of course. The truly genius thing about Body Heat is that it takes place in the 1980’s and yet not one of these Florida millionaires has AIR CONDITIONING.

Video Entertainment is purely escapist chez moi… and bizarrely eclectic. Started Tiger King but couldn’t stay with it (and some of it is fairly close to me so I’ve already read all the newspaper articles) the Witcher, Grace and Frankie, and Turandot on PBS
