Oregon/Cal Coast

Thank you. Napa like I said was a mixed bag. I was under the impression that its easy to find good farm to table meals here, but it turned out much harder. Seems like most establishments are geared to tourists.

My favorite meal was actually lunch at a Gott’s Roadside. We dont really have anything like this in NYC (gourmet burger chains) so that was a bit of a revelation.

Dinner at Farmstead at Long Meadow Ranch was fine. Good starters, $48 ribs that can easily feed three but advertised for one was odd. Food wasnt too bad overall, but space is like a loud glorified Applebee’s

Angele was worse. A French Bistro serving some of the worst Escargot I ever had. Very basic whole Dorade, unlike any of the pictures I’ve seen of the same dish. Terrible bean salad. The saving grace was the excellent Beef Bourguignon.

Wine tasting was interesting but the prices were just crazy. We enjoyed Quixote, Caymus, and a brief visit to Francis Ford Coppola on our way down from the road trip. To compare, I just booked a tasting in Piedmont, Italy, 5 wines including Barolo, with cheese and salami for $18 pp. A similar experience in Napa would be north of $100.

But we did manage to do one cool thing here that we’ll remember forever and that’s hot air ballooning with Sonoma Ballooning. Highly recommend

Just visited Local Ocean in Newport for the first time. Spectacular! The standout was an appetizer of salmon tartare, but everything was very good. Incidentally, their corkage fee is only $15, extremely reasonable. Another incidentally, they have wonderful patio seating, which was just what our dog needed.

It goes with the reggae festivals and pot

Sorry to hear but not surprised. I live half way between Napa and Berkeley and will choose to head towards Berkeley if I want something good to eat.

I found this page too late for Ziggy but it’s a useful resource for future endeavors.
