We are back. Well fed and a nice time overall. Managed to hit some of the places mentioned here. Most were out of the way or closed on our dates. One of the most surprising aspects was how difficult it can be finding a decent meal after 7:30pm!! in some of the towns.
In order of appearance from north to south
Ecola Seafood Restaurant & Market (Cannon Beach) - Good fish and chips. Much of the coast offers Halibut fish and chips which is some of the meatiest I’ve seen. Maybe a tad too meaty, but good overall.
Tillamook Creamery - Very neat place even though ice cream is just ok
Clearwater (Newport) - Probably best meal on the coast. Surprisingly tasty Asian dishes like Orange Cauliflower and crab and garlic noodles. A dock full of seals in the back is reason enough to come. While it was the best food, the service was very odd early on. And its weird that they let you reserve a table at 8:30 when by 9 they are already empty and have chairs hanging on tables.
Nosh Eatery (Florence) - Pleasant surprise considering I was aiming for Mari’s Kitchen next door which was closed. Very solid ribs and salmon bowl. I was intrigued by Mari’s Kitchen Romanian leaning menu
Hunter Creek Bar & Grill (Gold Beach) - A desperate find after everything else either closed by 6, out of ingredients by 7:30, or warnings of 90 minute waits for food. This one is a very, very local bar and we clearly looked like outsiders. Good burgers and fries so all well at the end
Endicott Gardens Bed & Breakfast (Gold Beach)- Our favorite discovery of the entire trip, even though we are firmly hotel people. Figured I’ll mix in one of those between Holiday Inns. Its really a special place. A nice couple that used to own a restaurant in Colorado. About 4 rooms. The garden alone worth the schlep. And to top it all an outstanding three course garden to table Breakfast. Great value.
SeaQuake Brewing (Crescent City) - Solid pizza and beer. For pizza snubs from NYC this was as good as I was hoping for a place like this. The rest of the menu is promising as well
Humboldt Bay Bistro (Eureka) - Worst meal of the trip. Appetizers were fine if not a little salty, but all downhill from there. Seafood pasta, Creme Brulé, particularly mediocre
Napa was a mixed bag but thats perhaps for another thread
