Tokyo Cream, Irving St. SF
They use Hokkaido cream for their soft serve. Hokkaido milk sesame swirl and Hokkaido milk with yuzu and honey. Really good stuff.
We love that place (usually go to the one in Roseville), and was there a couple of weeks ago.
We did a “bang bang” of Hun’s Won Ton (sour pickle and pork noodles, pork dumplings and wontons) and Tokyo Cream (Kouignigiri and black sesame cone).
We have a tub of Kawartha Dairy Muskoka Mocha on hand right now. Pretty good, esp for a more affordable ice cream.
From the description that’s a very mocha forward ice cream. ![]()
for ice cream for myself, I typically choose:
mocha ice cream
mint chocolate ice cream / mint choc chip
cassis ice cream (impossible to find in Canada, available in France)
strawberry ice cream
chocolate ice cream
chocolate gelato
coffee gelato
mint gelato
passionfruit gelato
mango basil gelato / mango chili gelato
lemon gelato
I keep Pralines + Cream ice cream and Vanilla ice cream on hand for the DCs.
I have yet to meet an ice cream (or ice cream flavor) that I did not like.
Except for maybe Akutaq. Not sure there is a day in my life where I would find that appetizing.
I guess the SF location just opened - sign said it was a “soft” opening, pun definitely intended
We felt like the crowd in the Irving location was definitely on the more mature side than the one in Roseville.
The Roseville location tends more high school demographics. Sometimes I wonder if it’s a gathering spot for the JDM crowd – to the extent such a thing exists in Roseville/Granite Bay.
I’m picky wrt ice cream. Some tubs develop crystals and get tossed. LOL
Maybe it’s a bit off point here but if you are lactose intolerant and live near an Albertson’s market I have’s PSA for you:
Thru tomorrow (3/31) Albertsons has a deal on Ben & Jerrry’s non-dairy ice cream at the lowest price I’ve ever seen. It’s $2.99 each when you buy 2; maximum 4 per person. Run, don’t walk! Even on sale the lowest I’ve seen in years has been $5.49.

Stumbled upon a Salt & Straw scoop shop in the west village. Haven’t had this brand before but have read a lot about its recipes via the Reddit ice cream maker sub.
I tried at least four flavors but the pistachio cannoli flavor knocked my socks off - one of the best scoops I’ve had in several years, and definitely the first commercial scoop I’ve truly loved since I started making it myself.

We used to call all the fountain pops mixed together in one cup Swamp Water.
