[NYC] LumLum Thai Seafood Bar (9th Ave)

We had a HO group dinner at LumLum last night and tried more of the menu.

  • Pork belly: Crispy garlic, juicy and crisp pork belly, what’s not to like. (Pic above)

  • Cuttlefish: Geneous portion, good even if quite basic, spicy/tart green dipping sauce.

  • Taro fritters: Not that flavorful, to me anyway; served with sweet chili sauce.

  • Squid ink soup: Delicious flavor, with some heat.

  • Grapefruit salad: Simple but refreshing - grapefruit slices topped with fried shallots.

  • Pad ki mao: Good rendition.

  • Pad see ew: Ditto, though a bit short on the char that puts some versions over the top.

  • Whole fried fish with pad chua sauce: Not as spicy as expected. The portion seemed smaller than the steamed fish, not sure if that was the case or it was just because they cut it up a certain way.

  • Mixed seafood fried rice with lemongrass: This was one of my favorites of the night.

  • Crying tiger (steak): I liked this a lot, but that was not surprising because it was steak over garlic rice with crispy shallots, and I like every one of those things.

  • Brussels sprouts: Different prep than the usual - not fried and not roasted, doused in a flavorful dressing and topped with crispy garlic.

.

There were several things we would have tried had they been portioned to share, so that’s for another visit.

Service ranged from spotty to good. We had to wait a while for our table because a two-top lingered on, and finally had to be asked to vacate the table (even though the long line of folks waiting was obvious).
