Cardamom bun from Fabrique on 14th St.
5.50 for a truly enormous bun; would’ve been fine for two people to split. Not too sweet but a bit dry for my taste.

This entire trip, I promised myself every evening that the next morning, I would get up early and trek to the city to Librae to try their stuff. After failing eight days in a row, I went local instead.
This is the salted grapefruit danish from Bien Cuit on Smith Street and it is excellent.
Did you ever find your sesame italian bread @vinouspleasure? Id think at places like eli zabars they have the upscale bread selections from makers like grandaisy, tom cat, balthazar etc - at least one of these Has a good seeded italian though not in a stick shape that i can recall. And they might be more substantial than cottony. Also check out the food hall at grand central. Sometimes you will find at farmers markets. Of course out in Brooklyn we have what you are looking for, including the semolina sesame in both stick and braided form.
Finally made it to Librae. The three pastries I bought were all warm (!) and, frankly, incredibly good. The rose pistachio croissant is an absolute stunner.
Looks amazing!
Tried out a buzzy newish cake place that is dangerously located adjacent to a rehearsal studio where I spend a LOT of time.
I didn’t really like the cake. I inquired before I bought the slice to ensure it was made with butter (not oil) and without any of the trendy ingredient substitutions that the children are into these days. Once I was reassured, I bought this lemon and blueberry slice, but it was too dense and not that flavorful. Reading about it on the website, I now see it is “egg free” which could account for the off texture. The frosting, which I was told was primarily made of cream cheese and yogurt, was similarly meh. This bakery’s aesthetic is extremely haphazard fresh flowers on top of the cakes, but I thought it looked sloppy in person, and there was no info regarding if the flowers were edible.
I also bought a sumac cookie as a backup, and I actually really liked it.
