Oh wow. I want to try laminated bread so much. Shame there’s little chance of that any time soon. I missed my chance last spring when I can to go through the city (and if indeed in France, not where I go for family). Dang.
Babka, Chinatown pork bun and glazed donut I can get behind. But the rest of the list seems so “fancy”. What about the perennial favorite black and white cookie? Cannoli or crumb buns from an Italian bakery? Hamantaschen from a Jewish bakery?
Sigh… perhaps my tastes are too quotidian.
I don’t take any of these kinds of lists too srsly, TBH ![]()

This list is for tourists, most of them are only in business a few years
Junior’s cheesecake from the Brooklyn store only is the best cheesecake I’ve had of that type
I’m not much of a dessert person, but the corn husk meringue at Cosme is indeed spectacular.
The value of these lists is that one can identify things they might want to try. It’s not anything more than that, but that’s also enough.
Oh, for sure. They are but mere suggestions for residents and tourists alike. Lists like these exist for any major city, and residents (or even >gasp< tourists) may agree or disagree.
They are opinion pieces. Fluff.
Which is why I don’t understand the vitriol with which some of these are met on occasion ![]()
Classic.
