[North Bay, Ontario], [Sundridge, Ontario]

I’ll be heading to North Bay and Sundridge this summer.

Does anyone have any favourite places they’d like to share?
Thanks!

I can’t help you with Sundridge, but I have been going through North Bay roughly monthly for years. I don’t always stop to eat, but when I do, it is usually at one of the following:

Shahi the Royal Roti - I usually get the rotis and have enjoyed the vegetable rotis such as mattar paneer. The thali platter is also good as are the momos.

Arugula - when this place opened, it had pretty decent Neapolitan-style pies, with thin crust and an appropriate amount of toppings. Since then, they have shifted to local tastes and the toppings and cheese are loaded on. Now one pizza is enough for 2 people. Still pretty good overall. They have a screened-in patio for the summer.

Greco’s - this is one of those places that has a bit of everything: pizzas, pastas, subs, wraps, Mexican-ish dishes. The pizzas are my usual go-to as they make their own medium-thickness crust. Pastas aren’t bad, but don’t expect anything al dente.

Indra’s - decent Indian food, mainly for take-out although they have a few seats.

Lee’s China Garden - I’ve only gone for the dim sum, which is pretty OK for North Bay.

Burger World - haven’t been in years, but they did a decent pickerel dinner, the quintessential northern Ontario option.

Apparently, Wing House in Sundridge, part of a chain that is quite common in small town Ontario, is the only restaurant open for dinner daily in Sundridge.

A couple Sundridge restaurants that had been recommended, and open for a long time, closed between 2020 and 2022.

Did you try it? I never have as it looked more like a longer sit-down meal place and I’ve usually wanted something faster when I was coming through.

I lunched at the 1886 Lake House Bistro patio yesterday. It was a down-to-earth patio at lunch time. Some people were wearing beach clothes.

I enjoyed the Nipissing Burger with Blue cheese.

I wouldn’t say the meal took longer than a standard meal at a family restaurant. The food was good, better than average for a city the size of North Bay.

Our other stops in North Bay included 2 stops at Twiggs for coffee and lemonade.

I also bought berries, corn and cherries at a L’Ami’s garden centre that has a great produce selection.

The only establishment we visited in Sundridge was Sips, a coffee shop on Main Street. The iced latte was a good one. I meant to go back to buy coffee for home, but it didn’t work out.

1886 Lake House Bistro sources their coffee from Sips in Sundridge, too.

We ended up driving to Magnetewan for 3 dinners.
