We had 3 dinners in Magnetawan, a small town east of Parry Sound, in Parry Sound District.
2 dinners at Swiss Country House
at the Ahmic Lake Resort.
There aren’t too many Swiss items on the menu. The Wiener Schnitzel, technically Schnitzel Wiener Art, since it was pork, not veal, if you’re sticking with the Schnitzel language rules (which Poles, Czechs and maybe the Swiss seem to ignore in Canada ) was very good.
The Pork Schnitzel Wiener Art was as good as I’ve had in Switzerland, Austria and Germany. And a little better than my recent pork Schnitzel at Prague Restaurant in Toronto.
The Jaeger Schnitzel, pork schnitzel that was not breaded nor pounded thin, served with a mushroom and bacon sauce.
The apple strudel is also an excellent version.
The chocolate gugelhopf which was more of a lava cake with ice cream. Also, very good.
The fried Pickerel is good, too.
Tuesday night is All You Can Eat Pickerel for $38 night.
The regular $34 2 piece portion is plenty, and still available on Tuesdays!
…
We also dined at Tanner’s . This may be the last summer Tanner’s is open for business. I understand the 2 owners want to move to Mexico. Tanner’s is by reservation only, by phone. Small place. We got the last reservation the night we went.
Tanner’s is a small bistro with some English dishes. The chef is an English expat. Sunday, he serves roast beef with Yorkshire pudding and Brussels sprouts. This is a neat little spot. Fried Pickerel was good here, too. Tanner’s is only open Thursday to Sunday.
