That’s what I had seen, hence MY confusion. Let me see if I can find the other link.
Here you go! It’s on Weichert’s site.
Nice job!!
Victim of gentrification? Place is always packed. The owners son didn’t want to take it over. Joe is ready to be done
LITTLE SILVER: SICKLES MARKET CLOSES - Red Bank Green
In business 116 years!! Sadly, I know too many businesses of this nature who couldn’t outlast the damage from the lockdowns combined with inflation.
I wonder how much the red bank location hurt them and if it caused the closing here too? They catered to a clientele over there that seems to be recession proof. It seems like stuff like unstocked shelves and the like happened once RB location started failing.
It’s a shame bc the food was good albeit expensive. The catering was actually more reasonable.
The article I read in the APP made it sound like they MIGHT reorg/reopen in Little Silver, but TBD, I suppose. It’s a shame when places like this go out of business, but as I think I said when Red Bank closed, the few times I was in there (to get Booskerdoo) I was stunned by their prices.
I went there for the first time in weeks last Saturday and it looked like Venezuela.
I really feel for them.
They took a big shot and were victims of bad timing, and made even worse decisions on their own as things went on. Tough to think straight when you are drowning in the currents.
Rooting for a miracle here.
After pondering the news of Sickles Little Sliver closing, I realized that the opening of Uncle Giuseppe’s Marketplace might have had an effect.
From what I have been able to put together I believe the Little Silver closing should be a bit of a technicality until they get their bankruptcy petitions in place. My non-lawyer opinion is they have to “re-organize” their corporate structure to try and “exclude” the Little Silver location as they seemed to have signed personally for the lease in Red Bank. They are probably searching for personal bankruptcy while trying to insulate Little Silver from their personal issues.
@coldbeer70 how so? Meaning the shelves were all empty?
@KAOSKitchen I know exactly the pain they are feeling. I don’t think there is anyone in the industry, me included, that didn’t pay significantly for the cost of the lockdowns on the industry.
@Wizard2 I believe you are hitting the nail on the head. There simply was too much competition in that area anymore for the little mom and pop novelty markets to compete.
Also insane prices, imo.
It was during the indoor dining ban that I made the decision to get out of restaurant work. Specifically it was while I was dragging all the furniture outside only to have to bring it in again later. Worse was when the weather wouldn’t cooperate.
Still miss it though as I did enjoy the work, and most of my co-workers. Got used to having weekends off real quick though after having worked them for 35 years. Have a concert this Saturday night that I would never have gotten to see if I still worked in the industry.
Yes…empty shelves. I went to the deli counter to get a pound of corned beef…”I’m sorry, we don’t have any”. So I left. It was sad.
Literally just coming here to post this. Doesn’t sound good what’s coming out to be honest
In business 116 years and he stiffed vendors & hourly employees?… This guy is some piece of work. In my previous life in a very competitive industry a man would never get away with something like this. It’s disgusting.
Here comes another one…
Nicholas Creamery has leased a 1,400-square-foot storefront at Wall Towne Center, a ShopRite-anchored shopping plaza on Route 34 at Lakewood Road.
Here are the two take-aways from the article:
“There were people getting paid cash under the table that have not been paid since the middle of January.”
Hello State of NJ Div of Revenue.
"“I find it difficult to comprehend how this market survived a significant economic downturn like the Great Depression, but faltered in its current state,”
That’s just a ridiculous statement. Obviously, Bob Sickles Jr. doesn’t seem to have the business acumen of his father or grandfather who was at the helm during the depression.
Just curious, does anyone know how long this guy was running Sickles?
This could be troublesome to my waistline if true. I’m not sure what space is empty in that plaza but will be there tomorrow and will do some recon
