I don’t remember seeing anything about a Middletown Tader Joe’s but then again I’d have to pass the Eatontown one to get there and may not have paid any attention.
Ha! I read about it and thought the same thing…
Went into Tuscany on route 79 in Marlboro & was informed that they had new owners.
Anyone know who & what to expect?
The prices do seem very low. I may swing by there this evening to grab something before heading to a party.
Thursday will definitely go for the ropa vieja
I may have to be in the area one day just to try it too. I’m leaning toward toward Tuesday as I love oxtail. Or any day for breakfast #3
Count me in for oxtail!!!
What are you doing for dinner Tuesday?
Sounds like I’m meeting you!
Only $9.95 for Roasted Eyes with gravy! See you next Sabado. (The 7th Saturday selection)
Great! What time?
If anyone else is interested in trying The Latin Diner feel free to come by
I worked at L’Allegria in Madison back in the day. Often the family meal would include eyeballs on one of the plates. I maneuvered around those but appreciate that there are many who take advantage of using the whole animal. My offerings at work include duck tongue and testicles. Hit me up.
@CurlzNJ and I are meeting at The Latin Diner at 6pm tonight. I know a couple of you mentioned you were interested in trying out the place. If any one is free and would like to join us, you are more than welcome. Looking at you @Roro1831
Bumping this up for those who may not have seen it earlier… come join us!
Where’s Notjr? I hope all is fine with him but I miss his comments
Carolina,
Hello! Thank you for the shout out, I’m here just been very busy in real life and work so my time and focus has been elsewhere lately. I was going to try to make this but unfortunately my schedule didn’t allow. Hope you and all are doing well, keep eating good!!
I wish I could have made it but wasn’t free till about 7:30 last night.
How was it?
Stating up front that I’ll absolutely go back… the food was ‘clean’ (as was the place) and the guy who helped us was beyond eager to tell us that they had only done their soft opening 2 days ago, please bear with them, etc.
This is a walk up and order situation, but you can eat there (indoors or outside on picnic tables, most of which had umbrellas AND yellow jackets). We arrived right at 6 and I was a bit surprised to see how little was left on the steam table, and it turned out that we got the date wrong for oxtail, but that’s definitely something I’ll go back for!
Rather than order items, we went with 1 pork stew dinner (included rice and red or black beans) and 1 chicken dinner (same sides). I was bummed about the lack of remaining plantains, but then the guy announced he was giving us some other things to try - 2 croquettes and 2 empanadas (one beef, one chicken). We each got a bottle of water and the tab was… $18. Total. So for starters, the prices really are beyond reasonable, and our pal at the counter explained that he and the owners want this to be a place the community can enjoy - and wow, was the community out in force!
We ended up inside at the counter (which offers a beautiful view of the back of a parking lot full of trucks PLUS an apple tree, but no yellow jackets buzzing us), and at some point @MsBean and I were yakking away and I realized the place was FULL behind us. So the word is definitely out locally!
The empanadas were esp good; I’m no expert, but I thought the dough was delicious and not a drop of grease. The fillings were both good, but the chicken was esp flavorful, albeit a bit dry. The croquette (shaped like a fat mozzarella stick - don’t know if that’s traditional or not) was tasty and filling. To be honest, after one of those + half of each of the empanadas, I was getting full! The pork stew was exactly what you’d expect - tender braised meat, a piece or two of potato, and hearty. I had the black beans and as I said to @msbean, I’m not sure if you can mess those up. The chicken was well cooked - just wish it had some kind of a sauce, but my partner in crime got some of the onions in vinegar as we packed up our leftovers, so I’m curious to see how she thought that was.
Again, nothing fancy happening here, but also nothing to complain about (except no oxtail)! I’m crossing my fingers for these folks to succeed and will certainly get back to try some other dishes.
Thanks for the report, may have to go this evening for the oxtails.
When it was the Cuban Cafe they had the same issue, if you got there too late there may be little left of certain things but they would always give me extra of what they had
Good to know that; I think every time I had a Cubano from there (DAMN they were good), someone else picked them up!
GO EARLY.
Spinelli’s on 516 in Old Bridge had a big assortment of peppers today–probably right or ten different kinds. Also some tomatoes.
