NJ Food News

I’ve been there several times. It’s extremely delicious, tasty, appropriate flavors and spices - not for the random Canadian/American palate, unless they are expecting it. Owners are extremely friendly and happy to chat.

HA! Thanks for sharing that…didn’t realize it had started with a Tweet, but I’m not surprised. So many of my favorite (authentic) dishes are on that menu + there are variations that sound delicious–even when the owner isn’t WOWed. Heehee

ETA that at least the owner is consistent…
"While Fei is pleased to see the boost in sales, he hopes the added publicity won’t translate to higher expectations among diners: “I don’t want people thinking, ‘Oh, a lot of people are talking about this restaurant, so it must be very good,’ and then they come here and think it’s just average. I just don’t want people to be disappointed, and I don’t want to oversell it.”

Just saw this on the news tonight. Out of AP.
Pick up or takeout. Interesting backstory.

Those guys have a great idea, especially for people who don’t cook for themselves. The food looks tasty, and well balanced. I hope that business rebounds for them as we come out of this pandemic.

From the news piece last night it appears they just reopened. If you sign up for their alerts, you receive a 30% off your first order code. I’m going to give them a try just to support their community efforts.

Keyport Fishery is reopening Feb 2nd. They had closed for renovations.

This looks really good. It’s too bad that the minimum order is 6 entrees. I wish they would let me order a couple of entrees at a time. I don’t need 6 entrees at a time. We eat out on the weekend and usually have leftovers on Monday & sometimes Tuesday.

My order arrives via UPS tomorrow. I’ll post a photo. I’m not sure what the ordering details are beyond the two bundles advertised. The code covered s/h & tax.

I’m looking forward to seeing the photos. Enjoy!

Macrobites called me this morning that my order will be delivered fresh tomorrow. The tv press overwhelmed them with orders yesterday.
Good for them. TBC…

I just unpacked the order. Arrived in a plain white box, which contained a large styrofoam box. Inside 6 ice bags and 5 premade macro meals, one preseasoned steak that needs grilling and several sauces. All vacuum sealed fresh, not frozen. Sampler box $74. with coupon code. $$$.

No worries about too much food @paryzer. These are macro. Def a one off to support them; not a necessary buy for me and my wife.

I’ll report on taste as the week progresses.

I should probably (also?) post this on the main board, but wanted to make sure my HOmies (swidt?) saw it, as it covers a few recent topics!

Thanks for taking one for the team Dan! The preseasoned steak looks good. I’m looking forward to your review.

I have been supporting my Chef friend for the last month, who has been out of work due to Covid. He has been preparing some nice comfort food dishes, and his daughter has been delivering them on Sundays within a 10 mile radius of East Rutherford. I leave her a nice tip as well. I remember her when she was a little girl, running around her father’s restaurant over 10 years ago. He used to own Salt of The Earth in Nutley. He is a big Rolling Stones fan. He named his youngest daughter Bianca after Bianca Jagger :slightly_smiling_face:

I used to love this place when it first opened by me when I was young. Sadly it fell off big time. Would love
It to be a good spot once more as a place for quick and easy comfort food.
Can’t think of anyplace else in that spot these days, although Brennan’s does a pretty good job sometimes on similar stuff

I’ve seen the meals you have been enjoying on your WFD posts. Unfortunately, this is not that.

The indiv. Meals/steak were not identified and did not include any cooking instructions. So anyone unfamiliar would likely nuke the prepacked meals and ruin them. The portions are very small.

Tonight we tried the lemon chicken and Hawaiian meatballs. Both came with a few tablespoons of dried out whole wheat penne and a minuscule excuse for sauté zucchini. All three of the sauces were tasteless and I’m not sure what they were supposed to be used on-again no identification. The meatballs had some flavor and the portion was better than the chicken. But, the pineapple steamed inside the wrapper lost value at that point.

We still have 3 meals and the steak to try. I think I overpaid for a steak  and I hope the 3 guys aiming to keep a biz going fix the delivery option. I’m going to assume pick up/take home is the better route.

It’s way too early to know.

Hopefully they’ll ask for some legit feedback…

I’m sorry to hear about your unfortunate experience Dan. It’s too bad. It sounded like a good idea but the execution is not quite right. They need bigger dinner portions, a better Chef, and a little better organization. I don’t think those articles will help them. They will get overwhelmed and won’t be able to handle the initial increased orders, which will not result in any repeat orders.

Dang, sorry to read that as a first review. Hopefully the others will be better, keep us posted.

@CurlzNJ & @Metsfan86 I wish them luck, like you mets I used to be a big fan of theirs. Back in the day one of their first stores in NJ was Wick Plaza in Edison, and man was that place mobbed. It was like the chik fil a of the day with lines of cars to get chicken. I think their quality has definitely slipped over the years - many of their “new” products have been terrible. (Ever try their turkey? Meatloaf? ewwwww)

I honestly loved the concept and if they could recapture their old mojo it would be awesome. God knows we could use more “healthier” options vs. fast food burgers.
