Rumor is a Mexican concept will be opening in that spot.
UGH like this area needs more Mexican food.
It could be worse: it could be an Italian concept. (And what the heck is “a Mexican concept”? It’s either a Mexican restaurant, or a faux Mexican restaurant, or something else entirely. “Concepts” don’t serve food.)
Just drove past the old Thai Thai, which now has signage for “Thai Street”. Does that mean it will serve street food, or is it just a catchy name?
The newish Mezcal in Old Bridge fits what I suspect @BossaNova meant by “Mexican concept” (not that I’m speaking for them). From Mezcal’s website: “Discover Mezcal, where authentic Mexican flavors meet steakhouse excellence.” Its most definitely not a Mexican restaurant, but it incorporates aspects of Mexican food and cooking in at least some respect.
Maybe not news, but Hazlet Farmers market is every Saturday through the summer. Saw a baker doing some fun stuff, naturally leavened sourdough and wanted to give him a try. Glad I did, his pizza bianca is exceptional. Italian doughnuts, bombolone, are equally remarkable and his cornetti look real nice. Saving those for tomorrow. Anyway if anyone is interested here’s the info.

Mezcal is the newest addition to the 618 in Freehand group. So whatever your feelings about 618 should translate to Mezcal, obviously with a Mexican accent.
Google is no help: what is the 618 in Freehand group?
There’s a thread here about 618: Restaurant 618 Freehold NJ - #7 by corvette_johnny
Though this one is in Freehold rather than the more artistic Freehand
Freehold* my apologies
On behalf of both the Borough and Township of Freehold, I accept your apology. (I will also refrain from telling folks that your excellent restaurant is in Liver Sliver.)

Wishing you the best of luck @meatmaniac ! I’ve known Kyle for some time and he definitely shares Stew’s passion. Its very important that we support our local butcher as much as possible!!!
Stew’s a great guy and we’ll miss him… very helpful to me over the years. Best wishes to Kyle, who was at Citarella’s. Big shoes to fill!
WOW – that IS news!!! Thanks for posting it.
It’s that time of year again.
My wife went to the new Xina in Bradley Beach, she loved it.
I will add Milk Sugar Love ice cream to the list, JC and now Asbury Park. 8 flavors are constants, and another 8 rotate.
Everything we had was very good, I had the guava cream cheese (one of the rotating flavors) and the salted caramel (one of the constants).
My wife had a taste of their blueberry which was one of the rotating flavors and said it tastes like eating a handful of blueberries.
And I guess under the coffee (non chain) they mean national chains, because I consider Rook a chain, a local chain, but still a chain.
I don’t know about anyone else but after reading this now all I hear is Aretha singing Chain of Fools , not a bad thing
I had the misfortune to decide that on a Saturday night in Freehold to try DaRosario .Since the 7 pm time slot is impossible to eat any place without making previous reservations and parking was plentiful we decided to try it.
BIG mistake, of course it was empty with the exception of a few families with unruly kids but we were hungry and really just wanted to eat something simple
When the pear salad came out it was encouraging but that was short lived when stale bread and butter in those tinfoil plastic cups appeared.A big no no for me are those crappy little things.
Linguine and clams and a dish which was basically rigatoni and sausage were a huge disaster
The clams seemed very “ fishy” and the rigatoni dish was so salty my mouth was puckering.
We told the waitress these meals were unacceptable and bring a check
She returned to tell me that the mgr wasn’t on premises but she would take 10% off the bill
Be aware that this place is not worth your time and money unless you get a hankering for salty fishy food There’s a reason why on a Saturday night every restaurant in Freehold was booked solid from 7-9 pm and this place was empty
