New Jersey Coronavirus/Covid19 Local Restaurant Specials

I would love for more restaurants to be open to provide more take-out options for us. (Right now, Shanghai Bun and Sichuan Cottage are both on-again-off-again.) But we are both over 60, and Mark has asthma, so caution is our mantra. I go shopping now alone (and early), and we do get some take-out, but eating in a restaurant is something we can forgo for a while.

My parents in Florida were lamenting that they could not eat dinner out in a restaurant for Mother’s Day. They live in one of three counties that had to wait until today to open. And they are both high risk.

Old people!

WOWSA… but that’s also what I’ve heard from my niece, who lives in Nashville. It’s obvious that we’re in a very different situation here in NJ, but I’m terrified thinking about how quickly that could change across the country if we start moving about the cabin too soon. Stay safe!

Yeah, my dad is in Palm Beach County, and they were just reopened…last night he told me he was going to be first in line for a haircut. I yelled “WHY?” and said “It’s not like you have places to be!” This morning he called to say “If it alleviates some stress, I thought about what you said, and didn’t go.” I swear, managing my parents is giving me more grey hair by the day.

My in-laws are snowbirds. They plan to drive home from The Villages, FL, to Long Island at the end of the month. Why?! I just know they’ll see the grandkids. Making me crazy. (Sorry to go off topic…but it felt good to share.)

I feel your pain… My dad finally stopped calling me “the warden,” because I sent him all of two articles (weeks ago) and he saw what WE were dealing with.

We could take over for him

Based on their IG post, it looks like Greek Spot the Restaurant in Red Bank has re-opened for takeout.

Yes, a whole lot of people are VERY happy!

I would go to any restaurant that opened. They need our support.

And I read last night that Pascale and Sabine, after opening and giving curbside pick up a shot for mother’s day weekend, will close and try to come up with a different plan.

Interesting.

Was Mother’s Day their first/only day for trying curbside pickup? It seems that would be an especially tough weekend to open for the first time. Many restaurants that have been doing curbside for a while had time to prefect their processes. There’s been some discussion on how certain places started off poorly but have gotten better. Plus, some places were advertising MD specials and were sold out days in advance. I wish them the best of luck - they certainly have one of the better pick up operations in their group to use as an example.

They opened the Friday or Thursday before mother’s day

I’m with @MsBean - that’s no lead time at all! Seriously surprised, esp with Smith Group having already seen how insane Porta was, but I’m sure they’ll figure it out.
