I think the Star Wars ones are regular flavor.
Has anyone tried these?
I’m hesitant.

Map on the website says they’re available at Central Market in several Texas cities. Hooray. Will put them on my list.
I’ve tried the Frank’s Red Hot. They were, indeed, hot.
+1. I think of the $4 bag of Doritos compared to making my own chips and salsa. Like to do my own adornin’.
Hah! I went back and re-read the post of mine (from March of 2022!) that you replied to. And I should listen to myself, because I recently bought a bag of hot mustard Doritos. I love hot mustard, but I did not like the Doritos!
I’ve been trying store brand chips lately. Walmart’s Great Value nacho cheese tortilla chips aren’t an exact duplicate of nacho cheese Doritos, but they’re pretty good at about half the cost. Same goes for Great Value corn chips and chili cheese corn chips. Kroger nacho cheese tortilla chips aren’t as close to Doritos, and I didn’t think those were very good.
I’ve never found a decent substitute for actual Fritos.
Something unique that they don’t taste like any others.
You’re probably more of a Fritos aficionado than I am. I use plain Fritos/corn chips as a base to top with chili, beans, or whatever but don’t really eat them on their own.
HEB’s Texas Corn Chips (I think that’s the name) are the best copy-cat I’ve had. Sorry 'bout that; they’re very close but not an exact match. Whichever brand I buy, they don’t last long.
I’ve taken to buying tostadas instead of tortilla chips or Fritos. They’re less salty on the tastebuds and it’s easier to restrain oneself and not eat a whole package at once. Well, at least for me. So far . Just crumble 'em up for chili, beans, crunch on sandwiches, soups, etc.
Over the years I came to realize I like smoked sprats better than just about any variety of sardines. But they’re apparently not as popular and have required a visit to a specialty store to find. Just in the last few months, maybe since the first of the year or late last year, I came across the fact that products labeled Brisling sardines actually contain smoked sprats rather than sardines, and they’re widely available, just about anywhere un-smoked sardines are sold. The only two brands I’ve been able to purchase at my regular grocery stores are Polar and Brunswick. I’m keeping both on hand.
Smoked, canned fish - it’s what for breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks…
I hear you. Prolly the best smoked fish I’ve had was canned Columbia river salmon my pal from Oregon brought home with him. Not a commercial product, but I could have eaten that whole mason jar right now.
Well, here’s one possible explanation
I also have a memory of something else I have read (can’t find it online and apparently didn’t save it) that the difference comes down to how much of the kernels are utilized. The little dark specks in Fritos are from the very base of the kernels cut off the cob and many makers throw that out. It affects the final flavor.
Maybe I dreamed it
Note to the author of the overwrought Mashed article: Consarn it! Its Frito pie, not Fritos pie.
I agree. What’s more, it’s one of the few products that’s never changed, since I first ate them.
Good:
Tastes like chili crisp with a noticeable but not overpowering dose of truffle flavor.
No truffle oil in it. Ingredients include black truffle powder.
Con:
The lid is hard to open and resulted in a mess sometimes.
No MSG.
It’s 12 dollars for a jar at Whole Foods.
Is a con? Pourquoi?
Mostly because MSG makes things tastes better. Also its in Lao Gan Ma chili crisp.
Well, I think it should be no added MSG.
There is plenty of naturally occurring glutamates in that jar, from the mushroom powder to the seaweed and yeast extract.
Yes, that is true. I can also just sprinkle some MSG on top of things if needed.
Oh. I’ve never added MSG to anything. Is this product better with added MSG?
I’ve heard Frito pie, Frito chili pie, walking taco, and pepperbelly, but that’s the first time I’ve ever seen it called Fritos pie.
