I wonder if it is indeed pork jowl or “just” bacon/pork belly - on their own webpage they write about it as “Italian style smoked bacon”
Maybe. I was thinking they wanted to try something different but it didn’t make the cut. Can you tell from the picture or the cut pieces? I can’t.
I’m going to treat it like smoked meat and eat it!
The other piece I have is from Smoking Goose, and has a similar shape.
I had Smoking Goose guanciale - that is good stuff. The Hobbs guanciale looks a bit different and more like bacon
I think you are saying the shape and the fat and lean layering looks more like a piece of pork belly than it does a piece of pork jowl, is that right?
In any case, it certainly smells like bacon!
Yes
I’ve seen it … I’ll check to see if it comes in a personal size
I’ve noticed that, time and time again. The Asian grocers have this sort of stuff at great price. Produce is a given, but at Lee Lee’s in Peoria, AZ, their beer and wine selection/prices kicked ass. Any produce or seafood, cheaper and better. Don’t know if I’d ever go mushroom hunting again if I had one near me. Of course, I doubt many in the greater Phoenix area do much mushroom hunting.
Kinda where I sit. The closest thing to frozen 'za that I’ve tried is the “fresh” dough at Aldi’s and Aldi’s pizza sauce. I buy my cheese elsewhere, though. Just used decent hard salami as the emat and the ubiquitous onions, peppers, mushrooms, kalamata olives. I like cornmeal for the bottom of the pan. I make 2 12"-14" pizzas that are decent , not great ( Eaglespoon, I’m sure, would call it garbage.)
My frozen pizza issues are :cheese(I NEED good cheese), crust (Jeeezusssss!), veg toppings (that ain’t no onion, is it?!). That, and I either get no sauce flavor, or bad sauce flavor. MMMK, I guess that’s the whole pizza. So, the Aldi’s dough at $1.25, sauce $1.30, toppings maybe another $2-$3, maybe. About $5 for two pizzas with a fair crust, fair sauce and good toppings. I’ll keep playing that game for quick pizza.
These Spanish ‘tortas’ are really nice - stocked in Waitrose (UK). Available in different flavours. Waitrose have this ‘original’ (sweet, lightly studded with aniseed) and orange flavoured (sweet, flavoured with orange blossom water and tiny pieces of candied orange peel), and a savoury one (I haven’t tried that one).
I like the original.
I had considerable burning pain that Tylenol didn’t touch and which wrecked the nap and the night. Told the surgeon the next day when I went in for my follow up; he dismissed it, saying it was the Betadine and if he hadn’t used it, I could have gotten an eye infection and lost my vision. OK, fair enough, but I was up all night worried that something had gone terribly wrong - because Dr. Mansplainer didn’t tell me that there could be some residual burning from the Betadine. Didn’t even know about the Betadine beforehand - (I’ve since watched a video showing the surgical prepping) Had I known, or more specifically had I been told, I could have just dealt with it without being so worried. This Tuesday we cross swords for Round 2. Got my supply of frozen snacks today. …
I like the orange ones!
Got a personal size one today. Safe in the freezer!
Hope thisnone goes better!
Me, too
Big fan of the white cheddar variety. But really, why pick a fave? They’re all delicious
Behold Rao’s Penne Arrabbiata with Spicy Italian Sausage, which I bought as part of my frozen food for post cataract surgery stash.
Looks like this in reality after I microwaved it.
Verdict: spicy (well, it should be!). Lots of sausage. Tasty. Not as much cheese as the box photo, but isn’t that always the case? A good choice for my specific needs.
I’ve always liked TJ’s arrabbiata sauce. Never tried Rao’s, but Rao’s marinara sauce should come with a straw for immediate consumption.
Just had the personal size for lunch, after getting the patch taken off from my 2nd cataract surgery. Yes, it was every bit as cheesy as you claimed! Will add some chopped veg and red pepper flakes the next time!
Whoa. Looks like our little Turkish market has seriously expanded its Indian section. I only stopped in to pick up grilled eggplant, but I was mesmerized & intrigued by the variety of snacks (toppings?)
Perhaps someone more versed in Indian food products can chime in.
Many different kinds of frozen breads.
Lots of convenience foods, too.
Also, does Haldiram’s have some sort of monopoly on Indian foods?
