New England Spider Cake

Maybe all here are already aware of this cake, but it’s new to me and it’s the best I’ve had in a long time – absolute WOW!

If you decide to try it, pay close attention to the instructions–you put an empty greased pan into hot oven, then take it out and pour the batter into the 350F pan, then pour a cup of cream into the center of the batter. Return to oven and bake. Sounds crazy (at least to me) but the oh result!

Here you can see the cream layer and the sort of golden ring design it makes on top. I baked it in a 10 inch aluminum cake pan, it took about 45 minutes–a little less time than the recipe calls for.
