I have a Sunbeam T20 that works and makes toast. Best freakin toaster EVER. Mine is surely more than 60 years old with a fiber electrical cord. But it lowers the bread, toasts and lifts the finished toast up. I love it.

I was touring a local historic house over the weekend and saw an old-school, electric but not pop-up, tabletop toaster. I imagine there was a bit of a learning curve with that one.
