This is a total shot in the dark here, but I’m heading to Naples FLA and I’m looking for an old school Italian red sauce joint there. I’m going with my sister, who has a place there, and she suggested Carrabba’s which is very close to her condo, but it looks a bit too chain-y to me. Not horrible, but not exactly what I’m looking for.
TIA!
Well, one shot in the dark deserves another. We have some friends who live in Naples or nearby and the good news for you seems to be that there are a lot of Italian places that aren’t part of a chain (from what I know, that’s what Carrabba’s is). I can’t personally vouch for any, but Molto Trattoria has been mentioned to me as good, as was Casa Cotzelli (a bit out of town). My experiences in Naples lead to a couple of generalizations: first, the price points are a little up there and, secondly, being in Florida lends itself to a certain pastel colored ambience that doesn’t scream “old school red sauce Italian” to me. But, that’s just NYC prejudice speaking. After all, it’s the kitchen that counts. Good luck.
Not what you’re looking for in that it’s more Italian than old school red sauce Italian American, but this place looks awesome, and it isn’t a chain . I have not been.
Thanks! I’ll check out Molto Trattoria and Casa Cotezelli for sure.

Might drop by just for some Bombolone! Thanks!
DING DING DING DING! Looks like we have a winner here folks! I can get mid-high end Italian here in Toronto, but this kind of joint is a rarity. Good snooping there Tex.
And Tony Bennett ate there, that just sealed the deal for me ![]()
Absolutely looks like what you’re looking for. Any place whose family started by opening their first place 5 minutes away from me in Brooklyn (apparently slightly before my time in the late 1800s) has potential.
And it’s only a 10-15 min drive from the condo! There’s definitely no shortage of good Italian restaurants in Naples, like the 2 you suggested, but this is what I’m craving
Thanks again!
I’m looking forward to seeing what you order
